Wirh regards DPFs is the test at an MOT centre a visual one to check that the canister is still there or have they started doing some form of emission test

All that's done is a visual check.
Most exhaust places will mock you up a 'ghost cat' if required. Basically a straight through pipe with a box around it that looks just like a CAT or DPF.
Only issue I've found with my car with no CAT or EGR is the exhaust gasses STINK!

Well, I'll try adding a litre of pat fluid and see what happens...I will trade the car in next week if nobody is interested in making me an offer...I just didn't want to trade it in with the warning light on....of course if anyone was buying it I would fill the system properly and reset the counters...the dpf is in excellent condition, it's just the fluid level is low.
