I have done a bit of research.

It arrived this morning, I am installing windows xp in a virtual machine on my win 10 tablet, this should be interesting.

There are plenty of how-to guides on youtube....

One thing I will suggest, and its a common mistake, is when you need to enter your version number i.e.23.25 - just write 23 in the box or it won't give you the correct keygen....

It may not be a successful install first time, but after a couple of goes then it will be okay - do NOT connect to the internet.

When you succeed, let me know and I'll post up how to stop the annoying update pop-up, which if accidentally pressed can cause headaches and swearing..

Its not gone well so far.

got diagbox installed, interface set up and found by the interface checker app but cant get it to talk to the car, just tries for a bit then asks for a vin. tried both usb cables and every version of diagbox from 7.02 to 7.57 and all the same.

have created another vm and have been fighting pp2000 to see if i have more luck with that.

Anybody know if its worth trying some older firmware? the device came with a folder with some older versions.

I've come across a few cars where the diagnostic port fuse has blown, (it's a 10A fuse in the engine fusebox, but fuse number varies from car to car).
Are you able to try your pp2k on any other Peugeot, (or Citroen at a push)?

If it's quiet enough, you should hear a faint click from the interface as it starts comms - I think you only get this if the car's diagnostic port has power.

I'm running version 21 point something or other, but I've had mine since about 2009. Covers all models up to about 2007.

I got pp2000 installed and seemingly working as it should but still no communication with the car.

had some issues with it using a 16bit application on win xp sp3 in a virtual machine but found a way round that. an incompatibility with modern intel cpu that needs an old file from 1991 to get around.

ill check the fuse today, i had thought that may be a cause, i have a bluetooth obd2 scanner, is that likely to get any information at all or even power on? could prove something works even if it cant do anything useful.

It seems I may be the only person in the uk who doesnt know anybody with a french car vat all so trying another car is unlikely to be possible.

Don't honestly know whether you would get anywhere with an obd2 scanner, most people can't get anywhere other than with pp2k.
I think the 406 should support basic obd functions, but to what extent is anyone's guess.

I agree - most generic OBD scanners don't work with the 406, although there may be exceptions...

I believe the fuse you need is number 7 in the engine bay fuse box

'Ive not used Diagbox- only PP2000 which has done every Peugeot I've tried it on, except a 2012 Peugeot 308, which needed diagbox.....

Still no luck getting pp2000 or diagbox to talk to the car.

Nothing wrong with my diagnostic port though, my cheap ebay bluetooth obdII scanner worked fine, read and cleared the codes and even provided me with some live data although I only tried MAF and boost.

Pretty surprised that it worked on a 17 year old diesel car but it did.

Fault codes it showed are;

P0380 Glow plugs, circuit A – malfunction (could this be related to a past issue that was apparently fixed a few years ago?)
P0903 Clutch Actuator Circuit High
P0243 Turbocharger (TC) wastegate regulating valve A – circuit malfunction (caused by the broken MAP sensor?)
P0220 Throttle position (TP) sensor B/accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor B – circuit malfunction
P0120 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch "A" Circuit

If anybody has any idea if these generic descriptions are correct on an old peugeot or mean something completly different please let me know.

The glowplug error is common & can be ignored.
For the rest, clear them and see what comes back if you can.

Cleared the codes and all seems well, been on a few long drives to liverpool and manchester and no more eml.

Have returned the faulty pp2000 thing for a refund since my old obd2 dongle did everything I need.

now back to investigating clunks and leaks and whatnot.
