Nah not really mate, the trailer should be supporting it's own weight and the weight of it's cargo pretty much neutrally, just a little bit nose heavy. So the actual downward weight on the towball shouldn't be much. Many a time when I was a kid I remember the old man loading our caravan with a bathroom scales under the jockey wheel, then you can move the stuff inside around in such a way to ensure that the nose weight is just right. Makes it much easier and safer to tow.

I remember one time I was driving the old family car (a talbot solara) with the caravan on the back and had to brake suddenly, the van was too nose heavy and the brakes were sh*t, it shunted the car up the arse pushing the back down so the front came up, no weight on the front wheels = no braking or steering , that was a brown trouser moment!

Thanks for all the advice, really good as usual,

I don't use the site too often but when I do it is always a great help.

Judging by what has been said then, the maximum towing weight would be 1300kg roughly, the weight of the 306dt is 1165kg, so as long as the trailer doesnt weigh more than 180kg I will be withing the capacity of the car. Or have I completely misunderstood what has been put.

I'm don't tow regularly so i'm not used to all this, I have only ever towed a small trailer before!!
