Had a good look at different tuning companies and I think Shark are the best for the D5.
Standard 180bhp/350nm.
Stage One 215bhp/450nm.
Stage Two 230bhp/500nm.

Stage Two requires a performance exhaust and down pipe.
For reliability I'll probably stick to a stage one map (he says  ) but will put a Miltek exhaust on it.
Only issue with the Miltek is the down pipe has no cat or anything in it so it will fail an MOT visual inspection. I'll probably get a Stage One tune and a Miltek Catback and get a custom down pipe fabricated with a 'ghost CAT' fitted just to pass the MOT 'visual' inspection.

They sound totally evil with a Miltek!

How do you find your standard brakes Welly? My fathers T5 had the Focus ST brakes on his V50 and I think I'd like to fit them to the C30 that I might or might not get.

Hmm... interesting.
What ever my next car will be basically needs to be smaller than my Mondeo and have more than 4 cylinders.
I've always found a significant difference in refinement and responsiveness between a 4 and a 5 cylinder engine.
My theory has been with a 4 cylinder engine you have one power stroke after another. In an engine with 5 or more cylinders the power strokes overlap.
I also like a nice engine note.

So anyway onto the 'interesting' part. It seems in late 2010 Volvo dropped the usual range of a 1.6D, 2.0D and D5 and replaced them with the D2, D3 and D4.
I always thought until today that the D2 was the 1.6 (which it is) and the D3 and D4 were just variants DW10 lump in two different power outputs.
It appears that Volvo has gone back to 5 cylinder diesels! Woohoo!
The D3 and D4 replace the 2.0D (136) and the D5 (180) with the D3 and D4 being 147bhp and 177bhp respectively.
The D3 and D4 are 2.0 5 cylinder diesels and both will tune up to 200bhp and 450nm.

Now I know that I can broaden my horizons and look for D3 and D4 C30's too! I may be persuaded by a V50 with the right spec for the right price too!

Yeah they are 2.0 5-pots it helps with refinement and torque. I bet they sound nice.

The T5 comes with parts-bin brakes, some got the 320mm discs and some didn't. I have the smaller discs (off a Mondeo I believe) which are ok but fade when pushed. All D5's got the bigger brakes but then there's 2.0D's out there with them too :?

The best benefit-per-pound is the IPD rear anti-roll bar, completely transforms the car.

Looks like the T5 has gone back to 5 cylinders too! Whoever fitted a Ford 2.0 Ecoboost and called it the T5 should be shot!
That said from June this year the D4 is back being a 4 cylinder but now produces 190bhp.

I wish they would just go back to 5 cylinders across the entire range!

Ford are probably the best at Marketing out there, they always have been, they're brilliant at selling you little features that other marques don't promote. Buyers are drawn to extra features like a heated screen (nice bit of work on the world-wide patent), or folding mirraz.

It's funny because if you think about when the D9 406 exec was released it was packed with very impressive features but no-one knew about it! buyers still flocked to the Ford Showroom because the Mondeo had a 12V socket in the boot (when has anyone ever used that by the way? I can't think of any other reason than to inflate your spare tyre).

The 1.0l Ecoboost injin is actually very clever, there's a video on ebay that Ford did explaining how it works

Video on ebay? Got a link?

The yoyo has one, my rear-facing camera is plugged into it. It did come with an led lamp to plug into it (there's no light in the boot) but I've always found that the interior light is good enough, it might have been useful if the parcel shelf stayed in place but, as all it ever does is rattle about and fall off, it's been stuffed in the loft since we got the heap.

Going back to the original topic.
Fitted the genuine ford mirror to find my puddle light wouldn't fit into the new housing.
Contacted the dealer whose aid is need to purchase the updated puddle light at £22 +vat.

I promptly returned the mirror and ordered one from eurocarparts for £110 less.

Went Volvo shopping this weekend.
Looking like I'm going to end up with a V50. For some reason C30s cling onto their value and for £2500 less I can have a V50 with similar mileage and spec.

Be careful Bailes, the Value will drop like a stone. The S40/V50 are the 'old' designs and will quickly fall out of favour. And I don't think you'll like driving one of those after the Mondy. I don't think the car would suit your age either (I hope Doggy doesn't read this).

I'm 62, and every time I look through the window of a Volvo, I can feel the year counter clicking upwards.

Thing is a C30 still going to be worth £2500 more in 3 years time?

An for God sakes you lot! I drive a brown Mondeo now!
Surely a Volvo V50 is a younger looking car?
