Fastest I've gone in my 406 diseasel was indicated 120mph (115mph on GPS) - not bad for a 9 year old car that has a maximum speed of 118mph when new. Fastest accelerating "ride" I've been in was in Rita Queen of speed in Alton Towers, which does 0-100mph in 3 seconds
a good mates put deposit on a well nice r33 gts 2.5l turbo cant wait for a hoon. your right about rita shes the tits you just want to get straight back on

Years and years ago i was a passenger in a chipped up Rover 620ti. Cant remember what speed we got up to but i thought it was well quick
I had one of those as well! :)
Big heavy lardy car that would kill you on the first corner and it had typical Rover build quality (and they say French is bad!)
But when it got going it was a bruiser.
Slow acceleration but good mid-range and nice and stable at speed.
I got 135mph out of mine but was worried about the oil leak from the head gasket blowing me up or something

On the stable at speed thing anyone else find the 406 gets very floaty above 90mph?
My suspension is fine just soft and above 90 I can feel it trying to take off, drift and bounce off the road
Is that normal?
I'd have thought a heavy car would have been quite happy at speed but not my 406.
It's fine until I hit 90mph.

I've not noticed that on either of my 406's (admittedly the 1.8 took a while to get to that speed  )
Are your tyre pressures correct? Tracking ok?
Failing that the shocks/springs may be getting tired :?

Could be tired shocks I guess.
Tire wear is pretty even and tracking is fine.
Tire pressures are fine and the suspension is silent with no knocks bangs or any other dodgy stuff.
The car is fine till 90 then gets very floaty.

Still if that's not normal maybe I should get it looked at :P

Thanks

Unfortuntely the D9 came with "less feedback lighter steering" so I'm not surprised it feels light - mine does it too, you get used to it but there's not much feel through the steering wheel. There's huge suspension travel and squishy tyres but that's what makes it comfy. Overall the 406 is not a bad compromise really handling wise.

One thing I hate most it the stability at speed in cross winds - that's not nice :(

Yeah the crosswinds at speed is an interesting one too

So the car feeling light and not very planted at 90+ is normal?

the fastest i been in my own car is 140 mph in a 205 Mi16 i converted a few years ago but i took my friends bmw M3 up to its speed limiter of 155mph ( briefly  ) but it got up to that speed in no time  but one of the best rides i have had as a passenger was at silverstone about 10 years ago at a top gear open day and i got taken on a flying lap of silverstone in a 306 GTI-6 by a proffesional race car driver ( dont remember his name tho ) and i got taken round silverstones rally special stage in a rally spec escort cosworth by the ex britsh womans rally champion louise aitken-something and that was fast , i think she tried scaring me when i made a comment about women drivers to her :cheesy:

My mate has a M30 Powered M535 E28 BMW which is totally immaculate! That thing is bloody quick as for something which is well over 20 years old now!

Skylines are sh*t - GTR's are the only decent ones. GTST's handle like barges from all accounts...a seriously overrated car and the R33 being very lardy doesn't help. I'd much prefer a 200SX with decent suspension work.

I was offered a ride in a WRX pushing 400hp ATW one night which did 12second passes - Probably the quickest accelerating car I have ever been in, the acceleration was brutal how it pinned you back in your seat! Seemed pretty laggy though
