This still doesn't explain why third party insurance should be disproportionately extortionate.

Put £500 on road tax and include third party cover

Spend £1000 on a Mondeo, you can get a lovely Ghia X TDDi 51-52 plate for that with ~100k with service history.
Keep it 3-4 years and sell it for £700 ?
Overall parts are cheaper than a 406, insurance is much much cheaper and they don't rust like D8's do!

But I still can't help but want another D8 :(
I managed to get my 02 2.5 V6 Ghia X for £1100
Awesome car for the money :)

Got to admit, even though I was only paying £250 or so fully comp with protected no claims for the 110 HDi, the 2.5 V6 Mondy is about the same price
As was my Clio 172.
Must be my age.

Oh and 406 Verses Mondeo - not sure on the Diesels because mine was an older HDi and very underpowered but the Mondeos handle so much better (about 1000x better) that I wouldn't be able to go back to a 406
It is possible too have a big car that handles well and has compliant ride.
On reliability I don't think it's possible to have a car more reliable than my 406 was, I have heard there are injector problems with the Mondy Diesels.

The pumps go on the TDDis and the Injectors fail on the TDCi's... So I'm just going to get a 406 HDi 90 rapier.

Interestingly, I'm not sure why but my insurance quote wasn't too bad on the 406.

0 NCB as that's on the MR2 and a previous accident a couple of years ago and I got a 10 month bonus accelerator policy with Admiral for £595.

I found adding my friends girlfriend dropped the price by about £80! For the record, I'm 25 and live in a middle of the road postcode area, group C.

Although I did a quote for next year on the MR2 and it came back as £380!

My dad pays something in the 280-300 region for a 2.0 D8 ('98) for a whole year, fully comp as well. It's mostly down to where we live I'm guessing and also the lack of recorded accidents and fines (Foreign license)
