Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

You should see about getting yourself a Nivek scoop - apparently they actually help the V6 run more economically, some V6 owners have reported MPG improvements, plus there's the benefit that going through a big puddle won't drown the engine...

I have one but am yet to fit it.

Sweetness! Better throttle response, more torque under 4000rpm, no 3000-4000rpm flat spot, and best of all an orgasmicly sweet bassey ROAR when the throttle' open wide over 2000rpm (no major difference in sound, even at 70mph, unless I'm giving it beans). I also seem to be getting better economy too (24mpg from the commute instead of 21). Dunno whether it's due to the easier airflow, or the noise making me more aware of when I'm putting my foot down, but I'm not complaining
Interesting. IIRC Opel Manta's & the like had a themostatic valve arrangement that diverted the intake airflow when, (I think), the water temp was low, so it would pull in hot for faster warm-up.

I guess there's an ideal IAT for petrols & diesels, (welly reckons 15 deg. for diesels), not sure about you high octane hooligans. :?
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

A petrol engine will be happy down to at least minus 20deg C inlet temp before there's a risk of icing on throttle butterflies and the like (depending on humidity) but AFAIK 0deg C is the kinda optimum for max oxygen intake etc. Even if you drive in -20degC weather (Croatia?) you're unlikely to see that going in the engine because of heat gain from the engine parts etc.

The 406 throttle bodies I've seen (XU10J2TE and ES9J4) both have heaters on them :)

bought for 2600
sold 1850
spent about £500 on parts and loads of time on repairs

even cost me £180 to get it taxed for 6 months so it would finally sell due to the absurd requirement for insurance to get tax

Well that's not too bad I suppose. Most sub-£3K cars I've bought have ended up being sold for the wrong side of £1k

So, like, are you using the Coupe as the baby-transporting vehicle? or has her-indoors got a car too?

Sorry to be nosey, just interested, as most would probably throw the towel in and ditch the Coupe for something more family-like :|

SWMBO doesn't have a license yet, so it's down to me and my coop. No problem really as the doors are MASSIVE and the front seats automatically move fully forwards when you pull the backup. Add a baby seat base to the mix and it's a piece of cake to get the baby seat in and out. The tiny rear windows make for a reasonably private boob-out feeding place too :)

Only problem as usual is the doors are MASSIVE so you've got to find a parking spot with plenty of room either side...

If the little one's in the other car seat (the one without the base), it's easier to just put him in the front. Dead easy to kill the passenger airbag - just turn the ignition key in the little lock in front of the handbrake. On the Golf it's a right pain to get under the dash and physically unplug the airbag!

We will be struggling with the coupe next year though, when we go to Germany. Think a roof box's going to be essential, or if we can get the missus to take her test by then, I'll get her a 406 estate and call it problem solved ;)
