The queues around here have been diabolical, ironic as the trip comp reckons I've got 10 miles left in the tank and I genuinely need to get some fuel
My wife's Dad passed away last Friday evening while on holiday in Lanzarote, got her on a flight yesterday so I've got the kids for a week; not good when you're self employed & on call. Totally irrelevant to the thread but I'm a wee bit stressed

My Mother-In-Law had a stroke last month, and she lives in Indonesia - she's recovered well, ending up with only minimal loss of movement in her arms (good considering she could barely move or speak after her initial treatment) but it's related to hypertension (high blood pressure) which she suffers from pretty much chronically, so it could happen again at any time. Not fun trying to keep the Mrs. mind off it

I'm afraid I've not got anything nice to add because we're just about to loose my wife's uncle.

Can I add my condolensces to teamster, my father in law died 3 years ago, he was a lovely bloke and we all really miss him still, my girlfriend still gets teary eyed when our young daughter reaches a milestone as he should still be here to see it happen.

On the subject of panic buying I got a bit jittery this morning when I realised tesco had run out, the 10 litres for £10 offer is on til the end of the month but there was just a big gap next to the crisp and dry. Looks like I'll be visiting an actual fuel pump for the first time in 8 weeks

Like to add my sympathy too. Apart from your loss & the pain of helping your good lady through it, being separated and looking after the kids at so difficult a time must be a real trial. I'm sure many of us really feel for you.

We're still coming to terms with losing my mum in February.

We've not lost her, thankfully, but it came close. To those with high blood pressure - keep it in check, and make sure you take whatever medicine the doc prescribes you for it; at least we have the luxury of a free National Health Service - Indonesians have to pay for all their medicines, hospital bills, and doctors' consultations, up-front.

It's a glorious sunny morning in Doggyborough, the kind that makes you see things in a more positive light. Then I realised the date today and for the briefest of instants thought, 'Of course! This is the reason for the government's recent strategy'!
It was only for the briefest of instants, then the depressing truth returned.

Oh, I forgot the date, it explains the weather then - yesterday it was 23 degrees, this morning it was snowing when I woke up. It did settle but now the sun's shining and it's gone.

This morning my wife's uncle died, 9 days after being diagnosed with liver cancer. In stark contrast to his sister, my late mother-in-law, he was a lovely old boy. He used to come round here every Sunday morning for coffee and a tiny glass of something flammable, usually arriving while my wife was still in church so we'd have a chat (often involving a Croatian-English dictionary) until my wife turned up and put us right on the words we couldn't figure out.

Maybe I need to change the title of this thread but I didn't want to start a whole new thread to tell you something tragic happened to someone you never heard of and this seemed like the right place.

This thread's changed a bit over the weekend still that's what we're here for.

Best regards to all struggling at the moment, please be mindful that things WILL improve over time and you will manage ok even if it seems a mess at the moment.

To lighten the mood a tad I did manage to fill my little green petrol can (cost nearly £9.00 ) and successfully replaced the B&S carb diaphram and even managed a cheeky oil-change. The aforementioned Lawn Mower crapped out last year - ending with me having to start it with an electric drill on the main shaft and coupled with the tin-worm problem I scrapped it

My Father in Law gave me a (lesser) equivalent in much better condition so I'll have to look after this one a bit better (i.e. not in the rain and snow).

The first cut of the year *filled* my green wheelie bin

And keeping on Welly's lighter note I've got the lawn to tackle as well, the garden looks like a jungle at the moment!

Living in a 1st floor flat in Housing Association-owned scheme is good for me because I'm a lazy sod and there is no grass for me to mow. There is some grass, but someone from the HA comes along and mows it every month. This is awesome.

Downsides - communal parking scheme on a free-for-all basis (i.e. there is no space with my flat's number on it) so anyone with more than one car (or those buggers that run a courier company from their flat and own 5 massive f*cking white vans) coming home before me might take up the last available space, leaving me with a nice double-yellow line to park on Also, no garage, so no space for tools. Also also, no space in the flat to store ANYTHING really, including tools. ALSO ALSO ALSO, I don't own the place, so my rent money (which increases beyond the rate of inflation on an annual basis) means that while I have a place to live, I continue to get further away from the possibility of ever actually owning a building.

Also, why is it that whenever I decide to wash the car (manually, buckets of water and sponges, etc) on a weekend, it starts raining? Seriously, I've owned that car since 2010 and I've never actually given it a proper wash like that yet! And why is it that whenever I do find time to nip into the petrol station and hose the car down at the Shell JetWash, that some feathery bastard with the worst diarrhoea in the world shits ALL OVER IT within the next 24 hours???
