Got me Summers put back on at the weekend.

Here's the story; in the morning Welly got up nice and early ready to arrive for my pre-booked apoinkment at 09:00am Sat.

The rimz were shitty so I cleans them for the tyre-mounting operative.

I study the tyres (remembering the front end mounted tyres suffered 1.5mm more wearage than the rears) and decided to keep the fronts up front with 5.0mm fred and the rears can stay where they were wearing 6.5mm of freds.

With my trusty yellow crayon (as seen in any halfords bicycle tyre fixoring kit) I carefully marked a prominent 'F' on the two lesser tyres and next to the 'OUTSIDE' letterage what the tyre mounting person would be looking for.

Banged the tyres in the Boot and/or the back seat.

At the 'reception' I explained to the chap that I'd marked TWO of the tyres with an 'F' and would he mind awfully if he conveyed this data to the fitment operator (to save any awkward social communication later).

It's ready Sir!

Great stuff, what do I owe you?

£40 english pounds.

Chip 'n' pin do you?

Certainly, oh and here's you Invoice thank you very much, good bye Sir and mind how you go.

Now, can anyone hazard a guess as to which tyres ended up on the back end?? yep the ones marked 'F'

Sorted eventually with lots of blaming one another (I even got partially blamed for not marking them 'clearly enough'

I always feel a bit awkward when I hover over the tyre monkeys pretending to chat about any old drivel while actually watching them like a hawk, but that :arrowu: is why I do so...

And that's exactly why I run a complete set of winter wheels+tyres and change them over myself.

I had a similar situation when I took mine in for 2 front tyres and tracking.
Got 'moved' out of the fitting bay by the manager as he spouted H&S drivel and had to sit in the waiting room.
Came back with the keys and showed me the tracking report, when I asked why the rears hadn't been adjusted he said it can't be altered on a 406.
As I was on my lunch break I pointed out that one of his other fitters had adjusted the rears on my last 406 and he may need to train his new monkey a little better, paid and left.

I had a number of 'run-ins' with a local Kwik Fit. One was when I mistakenly asked them to fit a 12" tyre on a 13" rim. I went back to collect it a couple of hours later, and there were four of them with a length of scaffold trying to carry out my request. On another occasion, I watched a 'fitter' using his airgun repeatedly clacking away tightening up my wheel nuts. I politely pointed out that if he could not undo them with the manufacturer supplied wrench, it would be inserted where it would cause most pain. He had knackered the threads on the studs and nuts, so KF paid for a new hub, bearing, studs and nuts because they told me you can't remove the studs as they are part of the hub!
During my time with the AA I had a number of members who insisted on using them, and I had to step in on almost every occasion because of overcharging.

The very same, and yes I still like them; they are the best of a rather lacking bunch but still good IMO

I decided to not have that there 4-wheel alignment done purely based upon; it was done 5 months ago (3K miles), I didn't want a £100.00 total bill and the Winterz looked evenly worn....like not much at all but nothing 'uneven' or concerning....and the car plods along without much input from me (like most Volvo drivers before you start).
