Trying to get my remote fob/plip locking working!

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

That's my best guess as I'm not exactly sure what your car has, it's get you to around the right page so see if you can spot what yours has there. You can also stick your chassis number in which should cut out all the stuff that yours doesn't have.

Methinks it's time to go relieve the scrappy of a few bits he doesn't need. If I can't reprogram the key, well, it won't be any more not-working than it is now ^^

Grrr....

Well, I got me a remote locking receiver from yon scrappy. Picked a non-beat up fob too, though of course the guts of that are differently shaped. Never mind, one thing at a time I suppose...

Anyway, I popped the 'new' receiver in and tried the whole reprogramming the key stuff. Still no joy. It's an R-reg 98 (I believe) D8... am I right in believing it's turn the key to position one, then pressing the close button once? Or do I need to hold it down a while or what? Tried a few different combinations but still I am locking the car the old fashioned way.

Course this is all assuming the bit I got from the scrappy works at all...

For reference, I was way off before... this is what I now suspect to be the offending unit:

This is probably a very daft question but are you using the "new" fob innards with the "new" reciever"?

Can't help you with the programming, Service Pox only seems to do a D9 handbook after 2002 and a search on here doesn't find much (press the button 3 times?)

From other forums:
turn the ignition on.press the large button on the remote twice.take out the key, shut the door and operate the remote again it will now recode itself.
The usual method is : 1. Ignition off. 2. Ignition on. 3. Press lock button on the key. 4. Ignition off and remove key.
Fit the new unit (i take it its the one behind the glove box) and the new key fob.
Turn on the ignition and then press the large button on the fob for approx 10 seconds
Release the button and remove the key.
Now press the large button again
You should hear the door locks work.
(This often doensnt work first time so repeat as required.)

If your car has NO keypad immobiliser then follow the next instuction to enable the engine to be restarted.

Open up the fob from your old key and inside you will find a thin black silicone chip, remove this by gently prizing it upwards, now remove the same part from your new key and fit the original into it.
The engine should now start and the remote locking work.

If the original chip is damaged or you no longer have it the new key can be coded to the car by your Peugeot dealer for a resonable amount of money.

I'm still using the original key for now. My plan had been to get a replacement fob and simply transfer the electronic guts across. But like I say, the innards from one won't fit in the other, despite them looking the seem on the outside...

I'll go keep trying to reprogram some more later, and hit the dealer tomorrow morning. Thanks for info, Steve.
