Yay! that means the value of 2nd hand Pez cars will rise! I knew a 2.5 petrol engine was the one to choose

I guess 56 mpg is good enough, thought it might eek a bit more, was pressing on a tad* on the way home though.

I actually caught it having a poo, sorry, doing a DPF regen a couple of weeks ago; it felt rough on light throttle and sounded dead weird....got home and the fan was running up front (air con was off at the time) so I guess it had been trying to load the engine up with ancillaries. Thought I'd be clever and go back out for a 'hold the revs high' drive but everything just seemed normal. How long does a regen take??

No idea how long a successful regen takes, in the bad old days mine would try for at least 15 minutes.
(I could tell because I got to recognise the sound of the hrw relay dropping out when you lifted off the throttle and closing again when you put your foot back on it).
In fairness I don't think more modern dpf solutions* are anything like as bad as the pioneering technology* applied to 2.2 HDi 406's

I don't even notice my Focus doing a regen. I think once in the last 12 months/25k have a noticed a regen and it was after I pulled off the motorway and stopped at some traffic lights. The idle was around 1200rpm, the car switched on a load of electronics to load it up while it was at stand still and was making a loud droning noise.
Loading was 2% last time I looked so it must be happening.
I use Shell V-Power which synthesised from methane so in theory shouldn't soot up half as much as standard diesel.

I definitely think manafacturers have perfected the DPF now.

I'm getting that message all over the place. Turns out diesel will never be as clean* as petrol, so it all turns out to have been a colossal mistake

Yep, they'll have got the "doesn't go wrong until just after the warranty expires" part of the bell curve down to perfection by now

I think I mentioned a while back that I was following a fairly new C4 (I think it was) that did a regen: suddenly they slowed right down with clouds of smoke coming out of the exhaust and I thought "oops, imminent engine death" but after a couple of minutes of that the smoke stopped and they sped up again. How is that ever going to be environmentally friendly?

All this nonsense seams very complex, why can't they introduce some chemistry to change the emissions from dizzle eggsauces? I dunno some sort of additive to neutralise the harmful ......... oh wait.

It seems right though that pez is now the way forward until electric milk floats take hold. Speaking of which my Mechanic's Wife has a Nissan Leaf and he was saying how the charging network has been quietly growing in the last 5 years. They went from Leicester to Devon recently by calling in on Nissan Dealers for a fast charge (30 mins) and it seamed fairly straight forward with a bit of thought. I'm not so sure myself it seams to me like allowing yourself 3.36 ltrs of pez in your car because that's how much you should need for the journey.....

Leccy cars are all good till you see the cost of the battery pack and it's finite (not particularly long) life. Makes me wonder how many of these cars will get scrapped after 5-7 years.

Well we're taking the C4 to that Isle of White next week so I are mostly been sorting out little things:

Air Con re-gass with new oil (totally pointless as it was already perfectly charged) and predictably has made no difference.

Wheel Balancing (has been annoying since supposedly being balanced properly a few months ago) - now fixored.

Drop Links changed - was knocking and rattling up front very bad (£80.00 though )

Tracking (was pulling to left) - now only pulls very slightly (that's correct though in the UK? cars attitude towards the left?)

Fuel Filter changed (was still on its 2010 factory filter) I was expecting super fuel flow and better performance and predictably has made no difference.

Oil was changed 8 weeks ago so that's probably knackered already.

Has new battery since Winter.

Sunday the Shat Nav will be aimed at that Portsmouth and I can admire the marvelous Civil Engineering of the Newbury Bypass as it carves its way through those lovely fields (and a few* trees)

That lot above cost me about £230.00 so this little car has cost me about £1300.00 in maintenance so far, BUT it was free and I have to say it's pretty well sorted maintenance and reliability-wise everything that can be serviced/replaced has been including Cambelt, Warty Pump, Aux Belt + Tensioner, all filters, Fluids, Battery, Sussy parts, Tyres.

Average MPG over last 6000 miles = 44mpg

I guess it'll slide down the camber eventually but I don't think you should be fighting it the whole time...

I notice yoyoII wanders about all over the place, my faith in Michelins died a long time ago.

Since I got swapped the hateful Toyo Poxies for Dunlops, gave in and let them use ordinary balance weights and got a 4-wheel alignment done, I have nary a tremor and it runs straight as a die most of the time. Burgered if I understand it.

So you've not yet been to that there IOW yet?
Interesting that you're taking the unfortunately named C-4, (hope it doesn't go like a bomb).
I'd have thought you would see this as an opportunity to exercise the Volvo?

Apparently my Volvo is "a bit sh*t" seeing as you can't connect your 'device' to it to play popular music, you can't play CD's (cos it's broke like) it's "too low" and it's "too bumpy" and "too small in the back".

And it uses "too much pez".

Shame because the Volvo is ace for cruising at warp factor 10 whereas the shitrun seems a little out of its comfort zone.
