My front end has been destroyed!

Discuss the 406's Bodywork stuff in here (what parts fit what, what can be interchanged with what etc etc).

My front end has been destroyed!

Post by Mountain »

Hi,

Driving to work this morning I fell victim to the Bradford Whiplash Scam
Someone overtook in a filter lane cut me up and slammed on their brakes in front of me.

I now have.....
Knackered bumper (but I have a spare!)
Broken bumper reinforcer.
Broken headlight.
Bent wing.
Knackered bonnet.
Trashed fans and cowling.
Bent headlight surrounds.

Think I can get together the parts from fleabay and breakers yards.
I need.
LHS headlamp.
Bumper reinforcer.
New bonnet(again!)
Right colour wing.

Plan to...
Take bent bits off.
Straighten headlight surrounds (although can get new ones plus slam panel from ebay £30...hmmm)
replace fans and cowling. Change bumper reinforcer. Put on new wing and bumper.

In the meantime so I can get to work.
Put in new headlamp. Gaffer tape cracked bumper and drive around with bent bonnet 'end'.

Bloody hell - a whiplash scam  :x :x

I thought they were starting to use CCTV to help investigate this?

Are you only third party?

Yep. 3rd party

One of my colleagues had the same a few months ago. There was just the driver in the car when he hit him, by the time it got to the insurance claim the car had gained 4 passengers- all with whiplash

Very common in Bradford. It's practically a way to make a living for some. Buy a cheap car. Overtake someone and slam the breaks on. A few grand in the bank 2 months later.

It's been attempted on me before I think. Same road! I've just though what the F*ck are you breaking for!

The normal M.O. (as I understand it) is to target high value cars, usually with single occupants.

My defence is to run cars that look like I bought them from Lebanon, and always run with a blow-up doll in the passenger seat. :|

Didnt realise you were 3rd party only mate. Thats terrible.

If its such a widespread and common occurance, then how is it still being allowed to happen?
Surely the plods (or adjusters) get a bit suspicious when accidents with exactly the same set of circumstances (on the same stretch of road!!!??) coming up again and again and again?

Or am I just being a bit nieve?

Having passed my test and started my driving career in Bradford, I can honestly say that you need a totally different mental attitude to survive there!

Shi77y luck though mate. Try gaining some of your friends as passengers for witness reports.

Thats an proper example of the downside of the law.

I hate that. It takes a fairly scabby stain on the human race to engage in that sort of behaviour.

It's a horrible way to fraudulantly gain money and you can bet as soon as the (having to behave sympathetically) loss adjuster leaves then they all fall about laughing at their gain

Imagine though the trouble and ill health it can cause to the innocent motorist caught up in it all :frown:

I hate this kind of thing, and these kind of people with a passion.

Are you sure you can't disrupt there work with a counter attack? the Police might be helpfull if it helps them with an ongoing enquiry? even if it just stops these being paid out there ill-gotten compo :frown:

Whole heartedly agree with Welly on this.

Having lived in Bradford for about 7 years till i got out again, its about jct 24 that the bad driving starts when going at it from Mcr end and it finishes as you come out past Leeds, that place should have a health warning on the road side signs.

Bad luck bud, but do have a word with the local plod, you never know

LOL. I only work there! You are so right though.
You take your life into your own hands after leaving Leeds!!!
I have driven all over the world and Bradford is on par with the very worst places to drive through. Almost everyday you will see someone who doesn't want to wait for traffic lights drive along the path to turn left
There was someone driving along Thornton road in rush hour last week, on the wrong side of the road half on the path. Ah, the things you see
And then there's that stopping at a green light to let the ones queuing at the red light through???? I have only ever witnessed this particular phenomenon in Bradford. WTF is that about?
-
The one thing is insurance companies are very wise about 'crash for cash' claims resulting from 'slam ons' in Bradford. It is the nations number one crash for cash area.
-
The whole thing was just 'wrong'. Now I've been rear ended a couple of times and it takes a while to realise what has happened. This guy was practically out of the car the instant I hit him. Then convenient 'witnesses' turned up. Then after I pulled my car off the road the guy drove back and forth past me bout 5 or 6 times.
-
Also, I don't think I have ever seen a copper in Bradford....

It's probably safer for them to stay in the nice warm office :o

I'd deffo speak to the police, they will have to look into it and the first port of call will be the cctv.

Bloody hell your right Welly, I can vouch for the CCTV in Bradford its too good in places

I worked the doors over there for 7 years and that system is fantastic!!! (if youre on the right side of it :supafrisk: )

If you have any doubt over the legitimacy of the claim or accident speak to the Feds now, sorry officers of the law  , the CCTV in Bradford is kept for a minimum of 31 days.

If you want a contact in cctv or the local plod as an informal way in, let me know i have numbers for people i used to work with over there i was the chairman of the local Pubwatch Scheme for a couple of years so worked closely with West Yorkshire Police and Bradford City Council.

it makes my blood boil that this still goes on, in fact give me the guys name and address i will sort it
no sorry forget about that Im just having a rant!!

Where abouts did it happen? let me know and i will call a friend in Bratfud and check if there are any cameras covering that area, gotta be worth a try.

Cheers guys. Will do.
My insurance people were instantly suspicious when I mentioned Bradford.

It was in Thornbury just past the B&Q turn off, heading towards Bradford! I usually drive down there and turn right up Killinghall road on the way to work.
