Hi, i've got a problem with my '97 coupe v6 that i just can't sort. I'm hoping one of you guys can help.
My alternator belt is making a right noise, i changed the belt and it was slightly better until it got warm. As time has gone by its noisy all the time. I put a new tensioner on and still no joy. I've had my stethoscope on all the pulleys and they seem ok. I put a slightly smaller belt on and it still slips. Does anyone have any ideas? Also, i lost all my instrument panel illumination. Fuses ok, any suggestions? posting.php?mode=post&f=17&sid=a016d300 ... ee2e6d92ac#
Thanks.
Hello mate, welcome on in!
Not sure about the belt, power steering pump, alternator bearings?
Check the brightness setting for the instrument lights, should be a dial by your right knee that controls it.

Get some paint or tippex, and draw a line across the bottom (crankshaft) pulley. This will let you see if it's slipping due to a perished rubber 'bit' and needs replacing
