crank case pressure

Peugeot 406 hdi 2 litre 2002 plate 135k on clock! I have noticed that every now and again the dip stick is lifted slightly out of its holder and when taking the oil filler cap off there is a bit of blow. I am not sure whether the blow is what is to be expected and also not sure whether or not the dip stick is being vibrated up but possibly increased crank case pressure. The engine runs perfectly with no loss of power with no smoke at all at start up and none up through the gears, there is no smoke coming from the oil filler cap when its off and nothing through the dip stick when that out?? Does anyone know where the crank cases ventilation valve/pipe (which ever it may be) is and can they easily get blocked. It may be just that its wear on the engine but to be on the safe side I want to check. Ps the car has full service every 6000 miles and I did one yesterday.

Hi there,
the dipstick rising is a very common issue with the HDi, its the engine cover that does it, its held on with mountings that always seem to break away and let the cover rattle around on top of the engine and its this that lifts the dipstick up, it was doing it on mine all the time (90 hdi 2000) till i botched the cover back on with some cable ties since then ive not had a problem.

The agreed method seems to be to get some Renault exhaust mounts and use them along with some wing nuts to hold the top cover in place, have a search on here its been covered plenty of times and i think there is even some pics of what you need and possibly even part numbers in a post somewhere, if i was on a quicker connection i would have a search for you but sadly im based out in Poland and the www isnt all it could be out here yet

as for the breather pipes somebody will be along soon with a tad more mechanical knowledge than myself and im sure they will oblige with locations and the like,

dont worry too much im pretty sure you will find its the engine cover

Thanks for the nearly immediate response? I popped the cover off and have taken it on a 40 mile round trip to preston and give it a bit of a thrashing (as I would assume the pressure would max out) and you were right it hadnt moved and it must the the cover. I have looked at ebay for the lugs and catches and they want £25 plus postage justs for the lugs. Peugeot are selling the lot for £26 in vat so best go back to the dealers. Ebays not was it once was (bit like the car boot markets)

You have set my mind at rest on that THANKS, does anyone else know where the crank case vent is then????

seriously have a scout about on here and look for the posts concerning loose engine covers, they will probably give you the part number for the renault exhaust mounts you can use instead of the peugeot mountings, the pug ones always break so you will be back to square one in no time. the renualt things are much stronger and peanuts to buy opposed to the pug things.

GOT THEM AND THANKS FOR THE INFO

AS PER THE OTHER POST YOU SENT THE LINK TO THE EXHAUST MOUNTS ARE FOR A RENAULT 4, 5 AND 6 AND THE COST FOR ALL 4 WAS THE PRINCELY SUM OF £3.67 AND THEY ARE THE SAME THREAD SO SCREW STRAIGHT IN. JUST GOT TO GET A FEW WASHERS AND WING NUTS (£1.00 -£2.00) AND JOB DONE.

PEUGEOT WHERE AFTER £26 PLUS VAT FOR THE SET SO MINIMUM £20 SAVED AND THESE WILL LAST THE LIFE OF THE CAR NOT 6 MONTHS.

LIKE TO KNOW WHO SUSSED THAT ONE OUT
