Water Temps

Post by DRTDVL »

Hi Guys,

Sat in a lovely traffic jam today and watched the water temp gauge climb to basically 100^C, normally it sits around 70^C in normal driving, and climbs to 80-90^C when floored up hills...

This is in a 1.9dt, is this normal or should i start looking to see if the fans are working and the rad is clean

i had this on my petrol . runs at 70 then as soon as you are in stop start traffic it climbs quite alarmingly quickly
i did a post, and the general consensus was that nothing was wrong. the fans kick in on mine at nearly 100 and keep it at 95.there is apparently a higher speed on the fans when things start going too near the red but i have never experienced this. i let it sit idling on my drive as this also sends the guage to the red and made sure the fans kicked in, also obviously checked coolant level etc etc

i have just had the what appears to be the same problem and it was down to an airlock in the cooling system , i let the engine warm up with radiator header tank cap off and toped up with hot water from kettle , put cap back on and run engine for a bit to make sure water circulating and opened the bleed valve thing thats on bulk head where heater hoses dissapear into car , i got loads of air out and i let load of water come out to , let the car cool and top up header tank again , just dont let header tank run to low or ya will get air in system again , mine is fine now and sits happy around 70.

Seamed a little better today.

I forgot to do the bulkhead bleed, but i was squeezing the rad hose and saw bubbles coming out of the header tank, keep doing that while the engine ran till i didn't see anymore bubbles then let it cool with the cap off and topped it up as it cooled with warm water...

i'll do the bulk head tonight.
