Disc Differences?

Post by Bailes1992 »

Looking at changing the breaks on the 406 as there squeeling a bit (not grinding). Theres a light lip on the front discs and one or two score marks.
Looking on the Brembo site and they list two discs for my car...

Does anyone know what the difference is?
Also what pads would you say to go for? I'm looking at Ferrodo DS2500 pads but they look a little pricey at £133!

Anything else just as good?
Also what do I do about the rear drums as I've never tried

Ta, Bailes.

Brembo? Ferrodo? You made of money or what?

There are 2 sizes (3 if you include the big 305mm Brembo ones fitted to the V6 coupes but we'll ignore them for now), 260mm and 283mm, as far as I know the 260s were only used on the poverty spec small engined cars (the ones with 14" wheels), I'm guessing you've got 283s but you'd better get the tape measure out to be on the safe side  . I'd recommend Mintex stuff, loads of us on here have used them and they're really very good. Ebay seems to be a good source.

These are about the cheapest I can find at the moment....

Or if you want to do the rears too....
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PEUGEOT-406-BRAKE ... 359cc8975e
but if you're going to do that buy a set of handbrake shoes as well

EDIT: You said drums now? haven't you got discs on the back??? If it's drums ignore all the stuff up there about the rears....

Much cheaper :) My Dads Volvo runs Brembo Max discs and Ferrodo DS2500 pads and they are amazing! Hurt your face sort of breaking power :)

 Just measure the diameter of the disc mate

What size wheels have you got? 14"s = 260mm discs, 15"s probably 283mm discs.
