That smell that comes just prior to ££££££

Hi all,

just a quick question,

when i park up or stop at the lights after maybe 15 mins driving my motor has that smell of a car just about to overheat, now the temp gauge is not doing anything strange and the fluids are all topped up and no leaks and under the bonnet there is nothing unusual going on that i can see.

so just wondering has anybody else had this and found a cure, or is just another pug foible and likely to either go away or fix itself?

oh another thing, the car has recently seemed to have found a few extra horses from somewhere, not many but just a little punchier than the usual 90's lack of power. Now i put this down to the recent 3000 mile road trip and a healthy amount of "Millers Diesel Ecomax" injector cleaner blah blah blah i put through the system combined with a couple of 400 mile "Italian tune ups" going through germany and back but could the 2 be connected??

Im not stressing about it as everything is topped up and no leaks are apparent, just thought i would ask if anybody else has had the same thing or can offer any advice on it.

That makes sense, if the cat has collapsed the engine will be breathing more easily.

I thought that when a cat gives up it is more likely to block the flow of gases and increase engine temperature.

This smell, is it like a really hot smell or a dieselly smell (possible leak?) or rubbery like eggsauce hangers?

just a plain old hot smell, and tbh seems to have subsided a little now, infact its gone, was there for about 3 days but now is noticeable by its absence :? :?

COuld well be the CAT. But the engine management wont tell you that like it would on later pugs. I think the anti-pollution warnings came in at 2001 with the COM2000

I ran over a plastic bag once which stuck and melted on the auspuff (t'was a petrol motah) and this smelt like it was running hot. Not sure if diesel can get hot enough to do the same :|

If it was me I'd be thinking that the ubber-run you did recently has cleaned up the auspuff/turbo and allowed a greater heat transfer.......this is stretching things a bit far but, you know......

If you had a code reader thingy you'd be able to read the coolant temp yourself as the gauge on the dash is deliberately dim witted :|

Well whatever is has gone wrong/right with my car its now a bloody pleasure to drive :?

its got a lot smoother and after driving home from work tonight, a route i do often now so know well, i can honestly say whatever has happened its a blessing :cheesy:

im getting into gear sooner, pulling much better under throttle and is just generally much much better all round, so what ever it is thats broke/self-fixed i like it 8)

just the MOT to worry about now, but thats not for 6 months and i can guarantee i wont be getting a pull and inspection from the uk emission people out here, so im a happy bunny,

God bless whatever has happened :roll:

or to look at another way, why pay for a remap just get some Bahn-storming done with a few tanks of injector cleaner in :supafrisk:

Depends if it's collapsed into a hear or chucked itself out the back I guess

All I know is you take the o2 sensor off a tubby (making a hole in the exhaust just before the cat) and my god it revs quickly :shock:
