lack of power
Hi there, im after some advice please. Ive just replaced the head gasket on my 406 110hdi and was advised to put a 5 notch head gasket back on. everything went back together fine although when i drove it i found it seriously lacked power. i thought id missed a pipe off of the turbo or something but everything seems fine.
can anyone offer any advice in relation to what might have gone wrong, i clean everything up including the air flow meter so could this have affected anything ?
please help, i was soo happy to have done the head gasket only to find another fault !!!!

Re: lack of power
Have you done a compression test since replacing the HG?
Oh, welcome on in btw!

Re: lack of power
must admit i have not done a compression test since, would it not sound different ?
Re: lack of power
some HG's can be fitted either way up but need to go only one way, is it maybe upside down? Saying that, it would likely overheat as a coolant bore would be closed off or summat. Is the new HG significantly thicker than the old one? It may have slightly lowered the compression ratio.
And did you get the head checked for trueness or skimmed? Heads often warp when the old gasket lets go from uneven heating & cooling across the head.
Might be just a boost leak somewhere on the intercooler or pipework thats happened due to the disturbance of doing the gasket. Pre turbo exhaust leaks or sticking open wastegate will put the power down too.

Re: lack of power
Three things to consider....
1) Is the valve timing correct?
2) Did you damage the air flow meter cleaning it?
3) You fitted a 5 notch head gasket, is that a lot thicker than the old one? eg, 2 notch original? If so you will have lowered the compression quite a bit.You should always fit either the same thickness or the next one thicker if you have machined the head (which should have been done anyway).

Re: lack of power
Thanks for the replies, i now have an engine management light on so i think ive got a sensor gone down somewhere. everything else has been checked and seems ok.
there was a three notch head gasket on and advice was to go to 5.
hopefully get it plugged in tomorrow and find out what is wrong and when i do i'll let you know.

Re: lack of power
I've had a check done on the engine and had the following 2 codes come up
P00cc
and
P00c8
can anyone help with these ?

Re: lack of power
P00CC is an injector OR wiring fault according to goggle!!

Re: lack of power
Phoned peugeot and they didn't know what the codes were. although their parts are stupidly expensive,
i'll look into the injector or wiring fault, anybody know what p00c8 stands for ?
thatnks for your help so far

Re: lack of power
Finally i have solved the mystery with regards to my problems. after stripping down all the pipe work for the turbo i saw the actuator pipe going to the vacum actuator on the bulkhead, was off !!!
this explained why the turbo wasn't boosting. as for the codes i can only think its because the pipe was off and so due to no boost the ecu was throwing up these fault codes.
id like to say thanks to everyone for all your help and the fact that people took on my problem and spent time trying to solve my problem.
cheers all
