Re: twin turbo diesel
There's a 4-pot 2.2 twin turbo diesel designed for the 407/607 which uses sequential twin parallel turbochargers (a world-first on a diesel) and produces 170bhp and 277 torques at 1500 prm

The 607 has two diesels, the 2.2 4-pot and the 2.7 V6 (both twin turbo).
Here's an autocar review about the 4-potter...http://www.autocar.co.uk/CarReviews/Fir ... ve/222328/

Re: twin turbo diesel
I call misnomer: I propose that enjins with two turbos remain twin turbo while this two-stage business be called a two-stage turbo. Otherwise simpletons like me will get confused.
Also, I found a dit somewhere about a Lancia Delta customised for rallying with a turbo and a supercharger. Now that's the kind of mad engineering I can go for ^_^

Re: twin turbo diesel
The Citroen C6 can come with a 2.2 HDi "dual turbo", is this a 2 stage or a twin turbo?
Re: twin turbo diesel
I can't imagine a factory 4-pot having parallel turbossirwiggum wrote:The Citroen C6 can come with a 2.2 HDi "dual turbo", is this a 2 stage or a twin turbo?
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Re: twin turbo diesel
What the internet said .....
This system is based on two fixed geometry turbochargers of identical size. Each one supplies around half the air input required at high engine speeds. This design principle extends the operating range of the turbocharger and improves engine performance at both high and low speeds, particularly during transient conditions.
At low engine speeds, below 2,700 rpm, only one turbocharger is operational. This low inertia turbocharger delivers instant engine response, as well as providing up to 40 per cent more torque than the existing engine.
At engine speeds of more than 2,700 rpm, the second turbocharger kicks in to supply the increased air intake required at higher engine speeds. The system is so smart that it starts spinning up the second turbocharger before plumbing it into the air take system, ensuring both instant power and a smooth transition to twin turbo operation.

Swiss, pop yerself down to your local VW dealer and you'll see a few cars with factory fitted just-that.swiss wrote:Also, I found a dit somewhere about a Lancia Delta customised for rallying with a turbo and a supercharger. Now that's the kind of mad engineering I can go for ^_^
The 1.4 TSi has a supercharger and turbo

A small capacity engine (low emissions) but with a party piece

Re: twin turbo diesel
Recently read a good review in Autocar of a long term Octavia 1.4 TSi. They were amazed at the power from such a small engine.Welly wrote:Swiss, pop yerself down to your local VW dealer and you'll see a few cars with factory fitted just-that.swiss wrote:Also, I found a dit somewhere about a Lancia Delta customised for rallying with a turbo and a supercharger. Low tax bands would be handy for company cars, though the MPG never got above 40, wont quite match diesels just yet.

Re: twin turbo diesel
There's a lot of new Petrol turbo's now where they're kinda competing with the way diesels drive (people like it).

Re: twin turbo diesel
But are we talking about electronic control here? 'The system is so smart'... call me old fashioned but I'd prefer a mechanical option, in fact I feel the urge to go in to a shed and invent. Or possibly tinker ^_^

The 2.2 HDI is a PSA unit
The 2.7 V6 is a Shaguar/PSA derived unit...which is now a 3.0. From all accounts they are very hard to work on and parts are blindingly expensive.
