"Sausage" light confusion.

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

"Sausage" light confusion.

Post by de4mant »

After some hunting with the trusty search tool I've tried wiggling wires to no avail :(. Now I'm somewhat more confused there's a lose white connector under the drivers seat and another similar one in the passenger foot well (there was lose carpet with wiring hanging thought I should look) if anyone could tell me if this was normal or where the other ends may be i would be rather grateful and even more so if it fixes those damn lights

Cheers Liam

Hi de4mant,

by sausage light do you mean the airbag light, the one that has a look of a bloke sat down with a huge left arm, of the type the elephant man would be proud?

if it is this one then it is defo one of the connectors under the seat, each time my other angrier half drives the car she shifts the seat fully forward from the fully back position i have to have it in. Ive got leccy seats in mine as its a GTX and this must do something with the plugs coz i have to have a wiggle of each one afterwards to hopefully get the light to extinguish on the next start up,sometimes takes 2 or 3 goes but it always puts the light out eventually.

have you got leccy seats? maybe if not, then this spare plug could be the feed for them

Indeed its the airbag one with the Elephant man, nope no leccy seats, god knows why though leccy windows, leccy mirrors, a/c and sat nav think the first owner ran out of money for the options list by the time they got to the seats, might be on to something there, seemed odd that the lone white connector was only under the drivers seat and not the passengers.

hang on Im confused here (doesnt take much) I thought you said there was a connector in each footwell? or do you mean there is only a connector on the airbag for the drivers seat?

i havent even looked under the passenger seat in mine for anything to do with the airbag light, i only need to wriggle the connectors on the front of the drivers seat just under the leading edge for it to go out eventually, you need to switch off and on again to clear the warning light, it wont self extinguish without a turn of the key, i have tried

Sorry I didnt explain too well, under the drivers seat there's a random white 4 pin style jobby of which i couldnt find the other end for, theres a similar white connection block under the glove box also unconnected and no sign of its companion either, merely wondering what the devil they were for, just trying to see if someones disconnected a few things in the past or something.

Might try another wiggle/fiddle in the morning

this little fella is the offender

The fat orange wire with 'Pre Tens' on it is for the front facing air bags and will bring up the orange AIR BAG warning on the dash.

The sausage-head light is red and is for the side airbags built into the seat backs (facing the side windaz) looks like a man with a sausage on the side of his face (nice).

I dunno what that white 4-pin jobbie is for :?

Extinguishing the sausage man is somewhat of a mistery I seem to remember. I have a funny feeling the side airbags are controlled differently to the fronts.

My T reg said side air bags on the seat base (a little sticker) but I had no sausage light and no other evidence of them at all.

Around the back of my (leccy) seats in the area where rear passengers feet would easily catch underneath the front seat base I had yet another single-wire connector and it always seemed to help the airbag light when I fiddled with it but again I had no idea what it was - in fact under the drivers leccy looked like a mullered BT telephone exchange to me

Well successfully got rid of the flashing airbag light with liberal usage of insulation tape under both seats :supafrisk: , might just attempt the same with the little red clip i guess, hopefully with less swearing due to stabbing myself with copper wire
