I suspect I am needing a clutch replacement, ( pedal freeplay has all but disappeared, noise like a pump (!) when the clutch pedal is depressed (clutch bearing),engages at top of travel ? .
Is any competent mechanic capable of doing this , or is there a need for special tools, etc, meaning a dealer ? Also how much am I looking at cost wise. Is this the model that has a bonded flywheel that should also get replaced (150,000 miles) ?
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

The clutch can be changed in under 6 hours by a competent mechanic who's done the job before, without any special tools. The HDI110 has a dual-mass flywheel (DMF) which really should be changed while you're at it since it'll be due to fail soon and you'll have to pay every penny of the labour costs all over again...
While you're at it, I strongly advise you get a new bottom engine mount fitted as it's not expensive and should cost no extra in labour!

Many thanks mjb. Will definitely take all your advice. Re engine mount, that maybe the cause of the "clunk" I sometimes hear when it starts.mjb wrote:The clutch can be changed in under 6 hours by a competent mechanic who's done the job before, without any special tools.
