dvla taken my spare car

Post by omega »

moving my cars about today and pushed one of my 406 spare cars outside,i then had a call from my lads school as he had forgot his medication.whent to the school and when i came back 30 mins later no car but a note from the dvla saying they had removed a untaxed car.
now when i bought the car about 6 months ago the bloke had lost the log book which didnt bother me as i only wanted it for spares and it was a non runner, now i had most things off it i wanted so not really bothered about getting it back just worried about where i stand.
if i leave it and they get in touch with the old owner he will say hes sold it but he doesnt have my details
if dvla get in touch with me could i just deny the car belongs to me as no logbook in my name?

If it's not registered to you, and if the seller hasn't got your details then I'd keep very, very schtumm mate.

Aside from the lack of tax, there's a £2000 fine for failing to register it, and both you and the seller committed further offences by selling/buying a car with no V5.

If you don't open your mouth, then you deprive them of any evidence for a prosecution.

I agree, never let on!

No logbook

As it isn't SORNed, they could work out when you bought it / last owners SORN/tax ran out and make you back tax it from then to now. Plus lifting fees, pound fees, "getting back" / scrappage fees. :(

Just hope you didn't keep any bank statements in the glovebox!

it was going to the scrap yard at the end of the week,so all my gear was out of it.

I agree, if the old owner hasn't got your details, as far as your concerned, it never existed!

If the previous owner has nothing on paper saying that he sold it to you then don't say a word as the others say!
The bright side is that you don't have the hassle of getting it to the scrappy!

Stay quiet is the best option, although if the DVLA have your details they are an annoying bunch, i scrapped the mercedes 250d and they tried issue me with a £150 fine for not declaring it sorned or scrapped giving me some deadline to do it, so i had to ring them up to stop that happening.
