Bailey Had A Bump :(

Post by Bailes1992 »

Not too distraught really. I always though my first bump would be cause of me on one of my Mid Wales trips with my mates maybe taking a corner too fast or getting LOOS or maybe locking up and into someone or something.
But no, was reversing out of my mates driveway and he lives in a narrow street, looked up the street, down the street to make sure nobody was comming and carried on looking while reversing forgetting there was a Focus behind me :(
Did actually crawl into him, little scuff on his bumper but a few stress fractures which means I cant polish it out :(
Went to give him my insurance details and when I mentioned my second name he said "Your Jeremys kid aint you" and I said "Yeah" so he said he'll sort it out with him :)
My car home off worse really, bit of damamge on the bumper mouldings and frew stress fractures.

Live and learn. It wasent the fact I hadn't looked I just forgot it was there :(
Nobody to blame but myself really. Rather not get too pissed off about it though.

I spent three years hoping for a shunt so I could get a new rear bumper. Never happened. Then some lad in Tesco reversed his Arsetra in to my rear passenger side door and some considerable speed and caused no damage at all. So inconsiderate, I could have used a free re-spray :(

As a young lad it's good to get your first bump out of the way quite early.

I got my first AND ONLY bump out of the way the first week I was driving (my old Mk. 1 Clio back in 2007). I was turning right at a T junction.

Looked left, saw nothing
Looked right, saw nothing
Started accelerating as I was looking left, and then blundered almost straight into the side of a passing silver Vauxhall something-or-other that I SHOULD have seen had I looked left again before accelerating.

Caused £800 of damage to his paintwork and doors, according to the insurance claim report. Which is more than that Clio cost, BTW.

Damage to my car? A very small scuff on the black plastic bumper, on the front-left corner. Also, this was paid through my insurance as I didn't have a spare £800 lying about.

The knock on effect is that I am still paying more for my insurance than I would be had I not had the bump.

However, I instantly became a much more careful driver - and other than accidentally scraping the front left bumper of my 406 off an ornamental rock as I reverse-turned in the dark in a hotel car park, I've never had another incident on the road.

Ack Bailey :(

At least he was OK about it though. Probably helped that you didn't drive off, and he seemed to be a family friend. No dent in the insurance then!

Only crash I had was in 2003 in a mk1 Clio, had driven it all over Scotland and was back home and Xmas time. 1 mile from my house, busy roundabout, stalled, BMW 5 series tried to mate with it.
Clio bootlid was wrecked, he had a damaged grille.

2 things I learnt:
- Give a car plenty of welly when taking off from roundabouts!
- Always get an insurance witness / police report. The guy never told his insurance company, so when I went to claim they knew nothing about it. Took the threat of legalities  to get it sorted.

Wrote my wee Clio off, but made £200 on it!
Then wasted the money on an Orion :(

I got rammed on a roundabout by some tart in a 4x4 because she was in the wrong lane and wanted to get through me to her exit :x :x :x :x It ended up in court and the stupid magistrate found for her, his reasoning being she was on the roundabout first it was my look out  :x  :x FFS, I couldn't even see here through the forest on the island when I pulled on to it!!!!! So I'm with Sirwiggum - give it some welly and get out of there pronto. Oh, and watch in front for ditherers (no gender mentioned here), I once wiped out the back end of a tiny joke car with my Ashtray (which was completely undamaged btw.) because the twat went for a gap, as did I, and when I looked to check the gap was still there, which it was, they stamped on the anchors for no readily apparent reason - crunch!

Speaking of first crashes, there's a shrine outside my house because some lad decided to give it some welly on his bike. No crash helmet, no license, no nothing, going way too fast. He didn't actually hit my wall but it looks like he did 'cause I still didn't repair it from the last time someone crashed into it  so that's where they've put the candles etc, there's even a picture of him playing a guitar. I'm sorry, it's a tragedy to die so young but that's natural selection for you.

Never mind Sam, my first one was very similar. 'Twas a dark, rainey Christmas Eve in Olde Merrtyr Town, I was giving my bro a lift up town on't piss, the weapon of choice was a talbot solara with much damp and condensation and a non functioning heated rear window. Reversed out of our drive and crunch, brand new BMW 5 series visiting a neighbour. He said he'd parked a bit further up so as not to leave it directly opposite our drive, but in fact he'd inadvertantly put it in the turn around space at the top of the street where no-one ever parks, had it been directly opposite our drive I'd have missed it  Anyway the next morning he gave me the best Christmas present, he knocked the door and said as it was a company car he'd tell them it happened in a car park - good man! 8)

I had a Solara, it had the old SImca tappetty tappetty push rod lump in it, bored out to 1.6 so it was fairly nimble in its day. It also had steering that would sometimes forget to self-centre and a windscreen that went opaque at just the right temperature... Had fantastic brakes though. It also had a dodgy paint job, which was cured when a tree fell on it during hurricane Michael Fish in 1987

My first bump was in my father's car in the next street, I pushed the door of a Carlton in 6" when I was parking.

If you're going to have your first bump, at least it's not involving the insurance. Bad luck anyway.

Bad luck there Bailes, at least it will be a cheap fix

My first smack was when i was 18 in my Nova TD SX. Id just dropped my brother off at his part time job at a supermarket, as i was pulling out of the parking space at the side of the road i checked my wing mirror, all clear, so started to maneuver out into the road. Now if any normal person coming down the road would slow down and wait for the car coming out of the space, not this time, some bitch in a white Fiesta thought she could squeeze her pile of rust through the gap between my Nova moving out into the road and the parked cars on the other side of the road. Result - Nova dented wing and smashed indicator. Fiesta gouged wing and door. Que massive argument in the town center on a Saturday morning and police being called  I ended up paying for the repairs without going through the insurance, think the Fez repairs cost me 200 notes :(

Made me nostalgic for my first car.

Remembered I had uploaded it to "ride judge" years ago! :)

6 motorbike accidents? - think I'd have thrown the towel in after 3 or 4 :P

I hit a tree in my Cavalier when I was 19 and the car was repaired (the rear wheels locked up when braking in the wet, an old Vauxhall 'feature'), oh and before that my mate drove into the door of my Golf when I was 17 but I wasn't bothered (that car was a real shitter, which was just as well really).

Then, 18 years later, came this..............
