1998 1.9 406LXTD for sale - but not just yet - will relist

Post by flyerdave »

Hello, I am looking to replace my 406.

I require a manual 406TD - less than 80,000 on the clock - 1.9l 90bhp (older style) or 90bhp HDI (if newer)

from 1997 through to about 2002

I am a private buyer looking for reasonable prices - will not pay silly money so no time wasters please.

cheers

I have now found a replacement 406TD so my old car is up for sale - Its done 155,000 and needs tracking rod, steering box leaks a bit, windscreen has a number of chips in it but still passes the MOT, rear damage on the bumber and the air con has packed up.

MOT until next June 2011

tax until end of September

Used daily

Make me an offer!

Answer is Hampshire - England.

I have advertised it a little too early as it will not be available until at least next week.

Will come back and post photos when i no longer need it.

Polskipug - Where in Poland do you come from as I have an interest in Polska. I have a growing website at http://www.webpoland.org From my visits, there are a number of British cars that end up there and all credit to you Polish for putting them back together again. The British scrapage scheme added a lot more CO2's due to the dismantleing and then having to build new cars that most likely will not last anywhere near some of the old ones.

I raise the question: Would it not be better for the environment to make vehicles that can be easily serviced and repaired and are designed to last?

We seem to be in an age where nothing lasts very long and very little is repairable but we all know that materials are being used up at break-neck speed so those comming up in front of us will have much less to use and enjoy.

If i was an vehicle engineer/designer I would have a go at designing a vehicle where it would be simple to exchange every part (I mean every part) and the parts could themselves be repaired and put back into service.

But sadly I am not, so it would take someone else who is, to take up the challenge and I cannot see any of the current manufactures being very interested as they are only in the game to make money now, not thinking enough of our children down the line. When i was a youngster I did a lot of my own servicing, now I look under the bonnet and say what is that? What electrical unit controlls that part. Servicing labour costs in the UK are now about £70 per hour, many people cannot aford this so a number of cars on our streets are unfit for the road, some of them not very old.

:(  :?:

Hi Flyerdave I come from the little known area of Poland called Manchester in N.W England
I currently live about 25 Km from the centre of Warsaw.

My wife is Polish and we decided to make the move over here earlier this year as the UK is in a pretty poor state economically at the moment and Poland conversely is booming in every respect.

The amount of UK plated motors over here is staggering, all the scrappies have in are UK cars as the scrappage scheme as you rightly said flooded the European market with perfectly good and serviceable cars, it is illegal to re-register a RHD car here as Polish so a few locals and a very few Ex-pats are driving "still legal" cars from the uk and when the tax and mot expire the usual trick is, if its worth doing, they swap the steering and associated bits, lamps, pedals, dash over to LHD with parts from previously crunched LHD car and re-register as Polish, pay a small registration fee and you have a as good as new LHD car.

Nobody here wants to buy Polish registered cars as their own, as the roads destroy most things in no time at all, so they make the trip to Germany or France and buy them there, but the Uk is so cheap for used cars it is now worthwhile to buy them there and either drive them back or have them transported and convert them for the local market once here.

Its something I will be partaking in, in my own small way with my next car being another UK plated motor, used by myself until the MOT and Tax expire then i will sell it on for somebody else to make some money on, any profits realised will be used by me to buy another motor in the UK and so on and so on, I head back to the UK a few times a year anyway to visit friends and family and quite enjoy the drive back through Europe so for me its win win situation.
