Sat nav or not
My local breakers has the 406 im looking for spares sitting ready to be pulled apart, but it needs to clear through some insurance thing to be declared written off first before it can be pulled apart, anyhow i looked at my cars standard mfd after taking it to pieces and my idea of situating the 2 buttons on the either side of it to other places on the dash is out the window because there is no good place to solder to, so how much bother is there in adding the sat nav system, is the wires all there yet or would there be a whole session of pulling the interior of my car out to theread them through, only to find that i have acquired something that hasnt got a clue where it is, would spraying be easier in this case even though i have acess to all the sat nav components

Re: Sat nav or not
Not sure about the electrics, but does the SatNav not need to be registered to the BSI?
Also, a 406 SatNav is likely to be out of date (ie. Broadway is still a roundabout...) and fairly basic compared to modern 3rd party TomToms etc.

Re: Sat nav or not
If it was me, I would buy a nice new sat nav and not bother with the car one with its out of date maps.

Re: Sat nav or not
i do agree with other guys who have posted responses with regards to pug sat nav, its crap mate though you might need to upgrade and make your car look nicer interior wise but i bet you Nokia X6 built in sat nav is much better than the pug 1.

Re: Sat nav or not
The Pug sat nav on the 2000 Exec is terrible: "In 200 yards you are approaching a roundabout" I know anyway because of the road signs: what I want to know is which of the three lanes to choose from and (related question) which way am I going to turn??!! It has not heard of loads of villages, has no postcode search, no ETA ... a few years back I asked about an updated map CD and was told £150. Actually I do sometimes use it, but only when TomTom goes mad, or locks up.
In short, imo, Buy a TomTom instead.
Regards,
Springnuts.

I believe there is a specialist clinic your doctor can refer you to, to have that treated,
its just some creams and discreet dressings till the swelling goes down, erm so i am told anyway

Yup, the built in sat nav is pants, the handful of times I used it for real it was pretty unreliable, got me lost, annoyed the hell outta me, and one time it packed up completely when I didn't have a clue where I was, thanks! After that I used to put it on occasionally for novelty factor but I don't bother at all anymore, Tom Tom on my phone is soooo much better!

I have a Time Team TomTom - tells me where stuff was in 2006
Dogmobile didn't have satnav, so I can't keep up wiv you snobs.
I'd never use the satnav, but the display that goes with it looks better than my plebs 3-liner. Anybody tried both?

Re: Sat nav or not
my garmin is about 2 years old now, but with road changes it doesnt pick some new roads up, how do i make the sat nav know these roads ie the update is it only available from garmin who want about £80 which is a bit much especially if the roads change more after that

Re: Sat nav or not
The only way to update your Garmin is with a file from Garmin, unfortunately.
I have a TomTom, but recently picked up an HTC Desire smartphone (runs the Android OS, so it's all Google software). The included version of Google Maps includes satnav - it's really nifty. So I have my phone BlueTooth connected to my Sony head unit, and the phone streams music while I drive, does hands-free phone calls, AND does constantly-updated free satnav that uses Google Maps data.
The TomTom is pretty good, but there's a bunch of roads that haven't been added or updated in all the time I've had it, despite my spending money on new maps (four updates a year, for three years, doesn't make me happy when they don't bother updating any of the roads I actually drive on).
