RIP my HDI

Post by DiscoPol »

'Nuff said I think :(

Who would have thought I would have any emotion when the French B!tch went, but the time has come that she falls into the uneconomical repair bracket,

looking at the practicalities she is a RHD in a LHD world, the mot is up soon and im not hacking her back to the uk for that, the suspension is all but dead there is no aircon (mind u its nippy here now) and the handbrake has been snapped for about 3 or 4 months.

So she will be making her way to the great Polish scrappies just up the road some point next week, I wonder what i will get for her now  she is in a fair condition on the outside and the engine is noisy but fires on the button and i know the brake discs and lift pump are all fairly new.

If i was still in the uk i would have broken her myself and then sent the remains to a scrappy, but im guessing the postage back for anybody wanting anything might be a bit pricey

Oh well bye bye 406.

im going to stick around here though, if im still welcome? *creep creep mr admins sir*
you guys are a good bunch and enjoy a p!ss take as much as the next man so thats good enough reason for me.

Shame it's not worth your while keeping her going - (I suspect there's decades of service remaining by Polish standards).

Hope you do stick around, there's too many of our old stalwarts just drifting away....

Same here, what's going on? A few days ago I was wandering around the house in my boxers, suddenly the temperature's dropped like a stone - this morning it was 6 degrees! Which reminds me, on Sunday I could smell a strange hot smell in my car, it took me a few moments of panic to realise that it was the heater actually heating for the first time in 6 months :?

Have you considered if you could break it there? Obviously stuff like the dash, front lights and steering rack won't sell, but if it's a fairly but not too rare car over there you may be able to charge a nice premium on the parts...
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Im thinking Discovery now rather than Range Rover, purely because the re-sale potential is greater here and the purchase cost is lower in the UK, I will be driving the thing for a while myself then when i get a good enough offer on it will sell it and pick another one up around Christmas time when im back in the UK again :cheesy:

But I have to say Im looking forward to the V8 rumble in my life

As for breaking it myself, well i would need a better understanding of the language to do it myself and i think the wife would get sick of having to field the phone calls and translate to me then me telling her and her having to translate back etc etc etc

So im off to look at cars this weekend and hopefully will be tackling the drive back over here again by monday or tuesday of next week, Im definitely going to put some european breakdown cover on the thing though as it will be an unknown quantity to me before i set off on a 2000km non stop pan euro drive, i have to be back for lessons by tuesday ideally but i think that is a tad optimistic even for me

And Steve the weather has gone crazy hasn't it, its 12 degrees today and pissing down last night was down to 6 or 7 degrees and to think like you only a week ago i was bemoaning the fact i never fixed the AC in the pug, glad i didn't now though

I have a few motors lined up for inspection on friday and saturday back in the UK, I want an auto this time as i am not planning on keeping it too long and it does make the long drive a lot easier, but the ones i have lined up are either Manual with AC and leather or Autos with half leather and no AC, there is talk of us having a few more weeks of warm weather again before the summer is totally over,Hmmm decisions decisions decisions, we will just have to see which looks the best for the price and try to remember im not really buying for me but as a trader of sorts.
