Black box?????? 1.8 petrol

HI all ,
Anyone tell me what is the black rectangular box left-hand side engine bay ,next to screen wash, rad fill fluid top up bottles. Has a couple of pipes going to it and it makes a bit of noise , Can see it in Haynes , but does not tell you what it is ???

P/s reservior? Engine ecu? Suspension tower? Does it have a lid with a picture of a steering wheel on it? You could always drill a hole in it and see what stops working.

The black plastic 1ft long X 5inch wide X 9inches deep box ,to the immediate left of the drive pulleys and to the right of the fluid reservoirs. drilled several holes as suggested ,now waiting to see what stops working...........

I reckon you need to drill deeper, take the lid off and take the engine management ecu out first mind.
