My old girls been round the block!!

Post by mattyf »

Hi all, I was given my 1999 2.0 HDI early D9 406 saloon .... doesn’t have many problems now I’ve put new brakes on her for the MOT but as she was an old taxi her millage is a bit high at nearly 280000  and the service history isn’t the best  .

I was reading about how to do a cam belt change (on here) as I’m really not sure when it was done  (had a look at the belts and they dont look that bad) and I was just wondering if it was a job for the garage or can it be completed by a novice like me?

Also with her age and millage on her I was just wondering what else I should be looking at? I’m going to be giving her a oil filter, fuel filter, air filer, oil and coolant change.

Many thanks all!! :)

The cambelt should be changed every 96K miles or 5 years and isn't too bad a job for a competent DIY'er but you'd need some decent tools and space to work. I haven't done one but I know it's not the worst job out there.

You'd need to replace the cambelt 'kit' with all the idlers and stuff.

Replacing the water pump is very recommended as is the thermostat whilst you're at it.

The bottom pulley is a common problem but yours may have been changed already?

The service history might be patchy, but the previous owner couldnt have been too bad if its got 280k miles,
