Wiper arm removal
In my war against small details i noticed a bit of paint chipped on the wiper arm, i undid the nut and pulled it but it seems well on there, how do i get it off is there a special procedure to ensure i dont break anything.

It's been on there for 8+ years406executiveHDI wrote:In my war against small details i noticed a bit of paint chipped on the wiper arm, i undid the nut and pulled it but it seems well on there, how do i get it off is there a special procedure to ensure i dont break anything.

Get a flat headed screwdriver, put it between the wiper arm and the bit that sticks out of the scuttle and tap it with a hammer, go round the arm this way until it comes off.
When you refit it add a little grease

Re: Wiper arm removal
paintwise what should i do, would a light sanding down then some back to black, theres no rust just a grey colour under the black which is unsightly
Re: Wiper arm removal
i think trying to do it this way you will findBailes1992 wrote:It's been on there for 8+ years406executiveHDI wrote:In my war against small details i noticed a bit of paint chipped on the wiper arm, i undid the nut and pulled it but it seems well on there, how do i get it off is there a special procedure to ensure i dont break anything.![]()

1 it wont work
and
2 the screwdriver will slip and damage paint/ windscreen.
the arms go onto a taper and the only way i have found to get them off is to use a small puller[if there is another way that works id be happy to try it]
if it only needs a bit of paint the easiest way might be to do it where it is,mask up the surrounding area, sand it down then paint.

Re: Wiper arm removal
i dont like using aerosols near the car, i prefer to get the part off and paint it where it wont get paint on the car, and i can have good manouverability of the part. Im interested in hearing about this puller tool your on about, because i would think prying it off with a screwdriver would leave pry marks on the scuttle, which would be another annoyingly small detail i wouldnt like looking at, i cant stand pry marks.

There are a few different kinds of puller, but this one is typical http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Window-Wiper-Arm- ... 4aa575f86d

Re: Wiper arm removal
looks like it would do, is this a tool all good mechanics are supposed to have, i could perhaps ask a local mechanic if i could borrow his, i couldnt justify buying this id only ever use it the once.
But if i get it off would back to black be sufficent.

i twisted mine and it popped off, of course it took sum of the teeth with it, but once bolted back up it wors perfect and has since i changed my wiper blades 12 months ago,
its annoying how you have to remove the full bloody arm to change the blade

You don't need to take the arms off to change the blades, you clearly haven't developed the correct technique yet....

Re: Wiper arm removal
ahy you noticed that, the drivers arm doesnt seem to lift right, of course it means no sh*t adverts when i park up, but the passenger arm lifts ok
Re: Wiper arm removal
The best way to remove any wiper arm on any car is to undo the nut and push down hard with the ball of your hand on the part of the wiper between the nut and the hinge, nearer the hinge.... wiggle the arm at the same time.

No mate, that's normal. The technique I was referring to is how to change the blade without lifting the arm more than a couple of inches406executiveHDI wrote:the drivers wiper arm doesnt lift up is that normal, or is there 'a technique' im missing out on.

Re: Wiper arm removal
Does yours not lift at all then? It should lift a couple of inches but it's not supposed to lift right up like the passenger one (dunno why they designed it like that, seems a bit daft really)
