It's not the same, but I've no idea if the reason for that is just the different ratios or that the case is different too.

The casing's the same, the clutch housing is different and, seeing as how half the bearings are in this... It may be possible to make one out of the two but there's no guarantees you won't end up with a big pile of paperweights.

Btw I actually asked Peugeot this and they said no way. Not that I trust them of course...

Did you try flushing the 'box? Is it refusing to go in gear or making nasty crunching noises? It's always possible a selector fork is bent and apparently they're the same.

Initiallty the clutch colapased - I then had to drive the car aprox 8 miles (and went as easy as I could on the gearchanges !!) I then got the clutch changed - but with the box back in it is now very difficult to engage 2nd gear and sometimes 4th - But there doesn't seem to be any Grinding / crunching when doing so!

How easy are these Gearbox's to strip/rebuild ??

Are the parts reasonabily priced?

Rebuild? No idea, the last gearbox I rebuilt was on a Morris Minor. Parts I can help you with - extortionate :(

May be a long shot, but several owners have reported a gearbox oil change can work wonders for gearchange quality.

AS with most things Pug, there is more to this than meets the eye. I know of at least two HDI gear boxes, there may be more. Have you tried tne oil change? Grasping at straws but worth a try.

It was just a thought.....

There a lots of different gearbox variants, but here are some general observations:

There are two main series, whose model names begin with either BE, (BE3, BE3R, BE4......) and ML, (ML5, ML5C, ML5T....)

Lower torque engines, (1.9TD, HDi 90) tend to have the BE series, higher torque engines, (2.1TD, HDi 110, HDi 136), tend to have the ML series, though there appear to be exceptions with later cars. Steer clear of petrol models as the ratios will be completely unsuitable.

If you sign up for service box, you can check the spec for both vehicles, or post the VIN's for both cars & someone will check for you.

i change my gearbox oil every 12 months and always have, its a job that never seems to get done by most people

for the price it costs and time it takes its well worth doing

When I put the new engine into my Puglet, I had to adjust the two gear linkage cables to make her shift properly, that might be an idea, I can't really help any further, it was trial and error between two of us.
406 estate, 2.1TD, I fixed her, then part exchanged her for a Mercedes E300TD Avantgarde Estate.
Hmmmm, straight 6 goodness!
