All other wiper modes working and park fine. When in the intermittent mode there is no movement. This post viewtopic.php?f=10&t=11094 seems to suggest a solution but not really the same problem.
Guessing its an electrical issue, and a total novice to be honest!
On most later cars, the intermittent setting has been replaced by an automatic, rain sensing equivalent. Usually the stalk will be marked 'Auto' where you'd expect some intermittent 'symbollogy'.
If your stalk doesn't have this legend, you may still have the feature, someone may have fitted a 2nd hand replacement.
If you sign up to ServiceBox you can look up the configuartion, or post your VIN no. & someone will do it for you.

A further update as I still haven't solved the problem. The wipers are automatic, once I put the stick into the auto mode they wipe once, then don't do anything more. Can anyone help?
You could have a sensor problem, (someone posted how to clean it a while back IIRC), or it's just possible your BSI has an incorrect parameter, (there are several possible sensitivity settings, at least on mine).
A BSI reset can't do any harm.
Try searching for both items, let us know if you're not getting anywhere.
