More out of necessity I'm buying a 406 tomorrow.
It's an P reg 2.1td Estate with the full spec.
It's got 166k miles but runs very nicely.
I'm hoping it will be a nice car.
One thing I did notice was that the steering is very light. I think it may be the tyre pressures unless someone can advise me otherwise.

Welcome on in!
It could be that the tyres are over inflated.

Re: Picking up a 406 tomorrow
Hi,
I have only just bought on with the same mileage, only a little younger. I thought the steering felt light as in over-powered but I thought it was just the way the car is. Compared to the 405 I had, the 406 is a real leap in all respects and I am very happy with it.
Best of luck.
Kind regards,
Ed

Shame you got a 2.1, should of got 1.9 and saved a fortune in fuel costs by using Veg Oil.
2.1 cant use Veg, unless you replace Lucas fuel pump and injectors with Bosch.

I know. I used to run the Disco on SVO. However, this is just an interim measure and was more a need than want.GeordieBoy wrote:Shame you got a 2.1, should of got 1.9 and saved a fortune in fuel costs by using Veg Oil.

It's nice and nippy.Captain Jack wrote:2.1's are much quicker than a 1.9 and mine was bullet proof

Picked it up today. It turns out it's a 1997. It has, what could end up being, a numberplate worth a couple of hundred.
It runs and drives lovely. Going to spend an hour going over it tomorrow.
It will need an anti roll bar tie and a couple of tyres in the new year.
Everything works, including, annoyingly, the keypad immobiliser.
Going to buy a par of key fob buttons for it too. You have to use the key annoyingly.
Where is the best place for service items? GSF?

You can remove/bypass the keypad immobiliser. The steering is speed sensitive so the faster you go, the harder and more weighty the steering gets.
GSF, Euro Car Parts and Andrew Page are my car parts places of choice. I generally ring round the three of them and see who's either got the bits in stock or who's cheapest. They'll tend to price match each other anyways.
