Amp question

Guys, I have a Fusion powerplant amp which has been sitting in the shed for ages now. I've been thinking about wiring it back into the car and powering the 6x9s from it. Is there any improvement to be gained here? They're the standard D9 speakers, maybe the amp would be too much for them?

there would be a very good improvement,

the amp will be to much for them at full power but you just set that right,

but yes i say you will see a huge difference for sure

you probably know this but why your running 6x9s off an external amp dont run the rca leads along same side as power cable

helps stop that annoying alternator interference

Didnt think I'd get any interference

In the past I've ran all the wires down the passenger side of the car together and never had any issues, however they've always been powering a sub. Maybe 6x9's are more sensitive to interference?

I havent a clue about speakers and general audio stuff apart from a belief that bose make good hi fi equipment but are very expensive. What does 6x9 actually mean, and what is the ohm resistance given to speakers about.

6x9 is a speaker size, 6 inch by 9 inch, 8 ohm speakers (normally found on a house hifi) will be generally lower power than a 4 ohm (car speakers) or even a 2ohm

its not that the 8ohm speaker will be lower than the 4 ohm speaker,

it means the amplifier has to work twice has hard to play at the same level

your right in a way tho if you had 100watts going to a 4 ohm and 8 ohm speaker the 4 ohm will be louder,
you would need 200watts on the 8 ohm speaker for both the speakers to play at the same volume

you generally dont have to worry about the ohm side when buying speakers ,

the more important things are the RMS power, frequency responce & sensitivity.

Quick update of where I'm at...

I remembered I had a pair of Fusion 6x9's from my old 107 lying in the shed. Figured there was no better time to put them in. Now with the old 6x9's out, there's an issue with fitting the Fusions...Nowhere to screw them to Searched around and saw CJ's solution on here by making a new mdf shelf. It's funny that when you set out to do something relatively simple, it turns into a far bigger job Heres a few pic's of the kit I'm installing.

im taking my shelf out 2moro to fit my new speakers, i will post sum pics up of what i did with MDF, its not as big as CJs job,

it didnt take me that long either and the speakers are bolted to the shelf

in fact give me 20-30 mins im going to take it out now , i'll post pics up

ok heres my shelf, all i did was get 2 peices of MDF size of 1 foot x 9 inch, and cut round the shelf legs, cut the speaker hole out and drill all holes
i then bolted that peice of MDF to the shelf with the 4 big bolts you can see,
then once thats secure i then bolt my speaker to the MDF it worked very well and the shelf goes back in the car perfect
i got my screws from the local DIY shop,

you can use smaller bolts , so you cant see the head on the top but when i get round to it i will be covering the whole shelf in black acoustic carpet so the biig roofing bolts on the top of the shelf will be hiden
