Price for heater plugs and a battery

Post by Gary406 »

just out of interest a friends father in law has just had a new battery and heater plugs fitted by local garage

on his 05 plate vauxhall vectra, not sure what engine but think its a 2.0 turbo diesel

they charged him £250 for the job done,

i thought this was daylight robbery ,,,,surely a battery and heater plugs cant cost that much

what you think ?

£110-£120 for glow plugs and labour?

Depends if it is a decent heavy duty diesel battery of a halfrauds special...

Decent glowplugs for a 406 are £12 each, so say £50 plus an hours labour. Maybe £100 for battery.

Bosch Duraterm plugs from ebay, £25-30 for a set. Battery £80-90.

Shitloads of labour for an hours work.

All can be done yourself but labour in garages is the catch. A toyota dealer charged my uncle £1149.59 (and they took the 59p as well) to fit a new passenger door to the hilux, the door only cost £300 in the metal, it was painted and all they had to do was put all the bits on, and in the reciept it said decals ie the bit on the door saying 'invincible' a sticker £70 for a blinking sticker.

This was for a dent sustained to it after some lorry trailer reversed into the door, but no it wasnt really an invincible door it left a big dent in it, although it was invincible in the sense the door still operated with the damage, but toyota sure did know how to charge for it all.
