Bleeding fuel system 1.9 td 406 1997

Post by zarzamora »

If I ever run out of diesel, is it a difficult task to bleed the air out of the fuel system?

The fuel gauge is very unreliable and I try to keep it as full as possible. I am worried though that I'll forget to keep it topped up and one day have to start from empty
best regards

Absolute doddle of a job.

If it totally runs out, once you've put fuel back in, pump the "grenade" in the engine bay until it goes solid, then loosen the pipes that connect to the middle two injectors on top of the engine.

Turn the engine over for a few seconds, you should see fuel bubbling out of the pipe joints you loosened, this is the air being pushed out. Tighten the pipes up and the engine should start.

Just keep a 17mm spanner in the car.

You dont need to loosen the pipe, just pump on the bulb, then crank it over until it starts, if it runs rough some air is in the system, so rev it for 30 secs and all should be fine.

Depends if you've got an air lock or not, if there's air between the pump and the injector it'll flatten the battery before it starts.

if your worried you will run out just dont go over 400 miles ..

fill tank to top and once you hit 400 miles off it top it up again, your car should easily do well over 400 miles to a full tank so use 400 as a guide
