Caliper / Handbrake

Post by adam03031980 »

Managed to get my handbrake working pretty sweet now by changing the shoes and also it seemed the reason it was soooo bad was that the 2 cables at the back were f**ked passenger side didnt move and was seized and the drivers side was going the same way, however i have a question after all waffling on the passenger side caliper is really stiff like its moving thru thick tar and was wondering how you unstick them.

The calipers slide on a couple of "pins" which can seize up due to the minuscule amount of grease applied to them when the car was built.

I got the 2 rear slide bolts off the rear caliper but they go through a metal sleeve in the caliper and in turn that sleeve is in a rubber boot but i can figure out how to get that rubber boot off it seems more complicated than the fronts

Once you have the sleeve out the rubber boot should come but they're usually glued into place, making it a complete pain - I've been there and it involves small screwdrivers that have a big chance of making holes in the boot. If you can clean any gunge out without taking the boots off you've got much less chance of having to buy now ones.
