Power Steering pump warning...

Post by DRTDVL »

Just a heads up for people with a 1.9td - the power steering pump if leaking will drip directly into the alternator...

I just found out i had a leaking pump after my alternator light started flashing on, unsure how long it had been leaking for but it shagged the alternator beyond repair.

Also the pump isn't serviceable and requires a complete replacement.

Power steering pump leaks cause Alternator woes and same happened on mine and had to change about two power steering pumps (obviously used) until I get a good one and repair the alternator. Ended up replacing the coil inside without replacing the complete thing. So far going tough for more than a year after the repair.

Simple observation and timely attending on issues will prevent big holes in the pocket I learnt.

had a power steering pump problem a while ago, i think when the accessory belt snapped it knocked the bearing cover off leading to it's failure.
406 estate, 2.1TD, I fixed her, then part exchanged her for a Mercedes E300TD Avantgarde Estate.
