10W/40 semi-synthetic is the order of the day, any decent-ish make like Castrol, Comma, stuff like that.
I like Fuchs/Silkolene but it's mail-order and a bit of a faff to get it

GSF usually stock the FUCHS stuff, if that helps, and i agree with Welly 10/40 semi synth seems to be the stuff of legend, swapping to fully synth can dislodge stuff that would be better staying where it is in an older engine.

I just picked up 4 Litres of Castrol 10w/40 from Tescos, they've dropped the price by over a fiver to £11.20. Making it cheaper than their own brand.

Thanks guys, I used 10w 40 semi synth to service the car at the weekend. Runs better now. Feels alot looser (if you know what i mean).

I changed the oil, air and fuel filters (poured injector cleaner into the bowl where the fuel filter sits). The car runs alot better, the air and fuel filters were both BLACK!! I dont think the previous owner had changed them in the 20,000 miles he's had the car! Didnt do the pollen filter as i noticed a coolant leak and wanted to investigate that further. Still none the wiser though
