No it's not? You pay VAT on the petrol, so whats the issue? if that was the case it would be illegal to run veg oil 50/50 with diesel?

yep it is . heres a statement from HMR webpage

You can use vegetable oil in your car and mix it with diesel (vegetable oil is generally used as a substitute for diesel) but you will have to make arrangements to pay the Excise Duty to HMRC. See question 'How do I notify Revenue & Customs that I am using cooking oil in my vehicle?'.

Important Note: It is illegal to run your car on any fuel substitute without having first paid us the duty.

so you still have to pay duty , so it is ILLEGAL TO USE STRAIGHT OIL IN YOUR CAR OR EVEN MIXED WITH DIESEL

I've just found this and it says you must notify HMRC of your intention to produce (or use) fuel substitutes (like Veggie) but I think this may have a volume of fuel associated with it (think I remember you're ok as long as it's less than 2000 ltrs per year or something??).

only bio diesel which meats certain criterias is legel to use in road vehicles

if you use just waste oil or new oil they class that as a substitute which means that is liable for duty fee

so i it not legel to use SVO in a road car .....

so you may as well just use red diesel cos you will get the same fine / prosecution

Most of them aint got a clue, Veg Oil is per person, while Bio is per property.

Can legally use 2499 ltrs tax free, soon as you use 2500 ltrs you must pay fuel duty on all of it.

Nice 1, stick at it. The smell does get less, as you think about it less. ATM you're proberly thinking too much about it.
Give it a few weeks and you wont even know its on the stuff.
