Bottom pulley's the usual suspect. They do get a bit more 'tappety' once it's getting near oil change time, (from about 10k on), but it's not very noticeable in my experience.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Are the pulley prob's associated with the HDI only, or do they cause prob's with all diesel variants?

HDi's are dual-mass, XUD's are solid.

Strangely its running its usual quiet self today,
Must be just the oil needs changing,
May-be the oil as got too thin
its over 15,000 miles since its been changed,
this poor old thing needs a service me thinks,
