BT or phone engineer wanted

are there any past or present bt engineers (steve mentioned this once i think) or just phone engineers on here who can help with an issue i have with these little boxes on my wall.
we used to be BT customers donkeys years ago and still have a BT box on the wall in the living room,BUT our phone line is supplied by virgin media these days so we have a separate box(further down the same wall) supplying our phone,however there are two wires that seem to link both boxes togeter
1.orange
1.white
and when i disconnect one of them the phones appear to still work ie: dial-tone both downstairs and upstairs.
So can i just disconnect these two wires thus isolating the BT box and allowing me to remove it totally??
any help or advise on this would be great

there should only be 1 cable running into your virgin media box . and that cable goes to the main green box in the street ..

so any other wires coming out your virgin box yes remove them ..

as long as the thick black cable is still running into your virgin box it will be fine

ignore that message im thinking outside

inside your house mate open the virgin box and remove thos wires that go to the bt box. it will be fine.

Orange and white probably means it was once a second line. Crop it, bin it.
