205 Diesel

Post by FarmerPug »

What is the MPG of these things, i know their XUD and can run on anything. But in normal operation would one of these things do 60mpg, would they be better than a polo SDI?

aww now come on now there is no way the 4 bug eyed polo is better looking than the 205. The current 2011 polo is a handsome car yes but until then its been a bit ugly.

Yeah mate there better looking,
theres so much you can do with the old Dubs,

The thing iused to like about them was they were solid and strangely they never rusted much,
ihad an old mk1 polo it was proper clean
iwill dig out some photos of it when ican find some,

My wife went mad when isold the dub she loved it ..
she even insisted it was used for our wedding car ,

a guy over on the other pug forum deals with 205 diesels and they can do that sort of MPG and run forever.
i dont think the 205 has a turbo so its a basic diesel. and an xud at that

some may have turbo not 100% sure. but i shouldnt see any probs with acheiving that sort of mpg..

its hard say which is best cos VW make sum good motors altho i would probably go for the old 205 xud knowing how good these engines are 8)

my grampa owns a 02 polo sdi and its the slowest moving thing on earth. And even though there could be a 20 year gap id say the 205 is still better equipped.
Im just curious about the 205 there seems to be a bit of a comeback round my place with learner drivers, and a very good car to learn in at that.

Fabia in my opinion was a better car than the Polo.

If I was after a cheap small "disposable" runabout reliable diesel (and I might as the Honda drinks the fuel), Felicia or ZX diesels would be on my list.

I would love to get a XUD9 (Non-Turbo) and fit trumptes like you get on throttle bodied car's but without the butterflys.
Get a bosch NASP pump, Remove the governor from the fuel pump, turn up the fueling...
Then drop in in a 205... 6000rpm in an N/A Derv, economical and quick.
Then again I have previously dropped a XUD9TE into a 205...

but I never got to see the finished outcome as I walked away from the company I was working from.

that sounds like a recipie for a lot of black smoke, but probably a fast car. Even if a 205s xud could be tuned up to 100bhp which im sure is possible it would be a seriously quick car.

I had a little 205 DT a few years ago and it went really well, and in the short space of time I had it it returned a decent mpg, I sold it for £300 as it needed an exhaust :(

When i was a young un hooning around in my in my Nova TD SX i went to look at a few 205 STDT 's as an upgrade to the Nova really nice they are and they wear the GTI kit 8) Also looked at an ubber rare MK2 (think it was on a J plate) Golf GTD in white at the VW dealership. I wanted that bad but it was way out of my price range :(

Mine was on a J plate and had a good spec, front fogs, alloys and racy interior, shame it was a bronzy/brown colour, the bodywork was immaculate

I think someone had a mess around with the motor on mine as it boosted like a goodun' even with 160k on the clocks

Ive got a pic somewhere, i'l have a dig to see if I can find it

It sold within 30 minutes of me advertising it, the lad who bought mine said he was looking for one for ages and coud'nt believe his luck when I only wanted 300 quid for it, He didn't haggle

I had one a GLD 5 door a few years back, used it for rallying. Bought it off a local mechanic for £20 (my dad did have a clutch changed at the same time though). But it was unbelievably tough, the abuse that car got after 2 years was quite a lot, but everything worked, and changing the radiator which got busted a few times was really easy. And although it was a standard diesel it was great fun, especially with a strong handbrake.
