exhaust issue - can someone please confirm...
Is the back box of the exhaust the same on both a 2.2 petrol and a 2.0 v6 petrol?

Can you believe that gsf can't supply a 2.2 Sri back box?

The 2.2 is a bit of a rarity in the world of the 406.
If I were you, I'd save my money and get a stainless cat-back system. No more rotting mild steel exhaust pipe issues.

Wot, no Service Box?
I remember doing something similar a while back but I can't remember the engines, turns out it was the same box with different hangers (large amounts of stupidity).
Dig, dig, dig... The back box is different but the centre section is the same as the ES9J4S - same box, different hangers again? There is an RPO on that - the diagram seems to show a hanger half way along the centre section changed sides on the V6 but as the back box didn't change I don't think it was anything to do with that.
Did you try asking this one over on the coupé club? (Not had much time to look over there lately

i went to see my local powerflow man. he quoted 350 quid for a cat back sytem. i cant afford that now and the back box is leaking so needs to be done for the mot in a few weeks. i asked if he could do the stainless system in section so i could have them done at diff times. he said no probs and that would be 230 ish for the back box as i want it standard sounding so would need a big bos as there now.
what should i do? it needs replacing, but i cant afford anything other that standard mild steel, but i cant find a replacement easily!

Has your MOT man specifically said your car would fail on the MOT with the leaky back box, or would you just be given an advisory?

I can't even find the V6 backbox on GSF - how much is it, cheap enough to experiment with? DO you have access to a MIG for any modifications?

as leaking exhaust is a mot failure. is it?highlander wrote:Has your MOT man specifically said your car would fail on the MOT with the leaky back box, or would you just be given an advisory?

Re: exhaust issue - can someone please confirm...
I just got an advisory on my MOT for it (the Coupe's MOT was this month) - they described it on the advisory sheet as a "slight leak in the exhaust system" and another that was "corrosion in the exhaust system". It still passed its MOT as it didn't fail on exhaust emissions or noise.
You may pass the MOT if the leak isn't bad.
If you're any good at welding, you could potentially put a collar around the dodgy bits of your OEM exhaust in order to stop some of the leakage. It wouldn't be a permanent fix, but if you're worried about failing your MOT due to this leak then it might just help you.

Grab a gun gum exhaust bandage from Halfrauds, they also do a flanged collar that wraps around to butt up against the box. It'd be a cheaper fix to get it through the MOT!
