so just trying to plan the family finances, what's the going rate for a new clutch & fitting on an 97 1.9 diesel 406 estate?
my best price so far is £290

On mine at least, you DO need to drop the engine, as much as about 8" on the flywheel end to get the gearbox out of the car (subframe removed). There is simply no room to move the gearbox around more than about an inch in the engine bay, and you would need about 4" of movement to be able to slip the gearbox driveshaft out of the clutch. You'd also need very small hands to get the release bearing changed in that space toolozz wrote:you dont have to remove the engine to change the clutch,
just move box over or take box out
