Rear passenger door

Post by Headdex »

Hi there,

I'm new to this forum and I hope that soon i'm an experienced 406 driver as I like the car and the way my new Pug looks specially for it's age.

I have recently purchased a V-reg 406 HDi 110 as my Dutch Registered VW was bought by my brother and taken back to Holland, I had to replace the brakes and fanbelt and that was it I paid £500.00 for the car which untill now seems like extreme good value :cheesy: .

I have two questions:

1. The standard radio cd player is beeping and it only let me operate FM function but it does not engage cd's, is there a common explenation for this?
2. Some idiot van driver reversed into my rear passenger door and i like my car a lot and I wonder if one of you 406iacs :D can help me to a new door (silver).

Hope to hear from y'all soon.

Kind regards,

Headdex

Welcome along!

The beeping coming from the CD player indicates that the CD player has been added to the car as a replacement for a standard tape-deck head unit. Either that, or the original CD head unit has failed and has been replaced.

Basically, on the facelift model 406's (T reg/V reg, from 1999 onwards), the head units were coded to the car's VIN. If you install a CD player in your 406 that isn't coded to your car's VIN, then the head unit assumes it's been stolen, and beeps incessantly just to punish you for your evil ways.

You can get it coded to your car by the dealers (expensive) or you can see if there's a forum member near you with a Windows XP laptop, a Lexia interface cable, and a copy of Peugeot Planet 2000 diagnostics software. This kit can be used to recode your head unit.

Alternatively, you could buy a 3rd-party head unit and enjoy higher-quality audio playback without any of the VIN-coding hassle.

As for your knackered door - best bet is to find a scrap yard near you that specializes in French cars - or, look on eBay for "peugeot 406 breaking". Going under the assumption that your 406 is a saloon, not an estate, you could contact the seller of this item and see if the rear passenger door is still on the car and in good condition:

Hi Graeme,

Thanks for that info!!

I have thought about getting a 3rd party Headunit but I just think it really looks crap

I have made an appointment to get my radio Re-initialized at Peugeot for £30,00 which I presume is ok to keep the centre console looking tidy.

I'll keep looking for a door as it is just doing my head in that my sweet new car has been smashed and looks the way it does now.

I appreciate your help Graeme!!

Sam
