Oil Temp Gauge

Oil Temp Gauge

Post by leestudd30 »

Having now read the manual I now know how it shows the level for the first 15 secs! But under under normal driving where would you expect the needle in the temp gauge to be? I honestly thought it wasn't working when I drove the car home, but it may have simply been sitting in the first white section of the gauge.

I think yours is a D8 so it only does oil level.

The D8 V6 shows oil temperature

Cheers! Now I know it does both but I'm still unsure if its actually telling me the oil temp. Is it an easy fix/repair if its not working?

Full oil temp won't be reached for a long time on a Diesel, probably over an hour of use or 5 miles of motorway speed.

Having said that it may well just be a level gauge :?

I'm sure that the 2 litre doesn't have an oil temperature gauge; all that indicator does is swing to show you an approximate level and then shut off. Seems a waste of dash space to me!

You NEED to say what kind of car you have before you ask questions where the answer depends on the model/engine/trim

I think that every day I get in my car. (2.1 GLX has equally as wasteful level only gauge). Although that being said my dipstick is broken so I'd take an approximate reading over none at all any day! :cheesy:

My 97P 2 litre GLX has definatley got got the temp gauage. When you turn the ignition on the oil level gauge lights up and the needle shows its full and I've checked the dip stick and its correct. After the 15 secs or when I start the car the oil level gauge goes out and it shows the temp instead, I've checked the manual and compared it to the dash and its definately got one.

I spose it could be an option!

Does it look like either of these? Sorry about the quality!

Looks like the right one, it lights up on ignition and goes out after so many seconds and then shows what appears to be temperature afterwards.
