Dipped beam fault
Hi there, this is my first time on this site and hope that someone will be able to give me some advice.I have a 2001 406,2.0 hdi 110 bhp and a few days ago the dipped beam on the drivers side stopped working but side and full works fine.I did the usual-change bulb, check fuses and nothing.Could there be a separate panel of fuses in the car,as far as i know the headlights have separate fuses and I only checked the panel that's under the steering.

Re: Dipped beam fault
There is a second fusebox in the engine bay, just next to the battery box and the airbox.
If you have access to a multimeter, you can measure the voltage being applied to the terminals that connect to the bulb itself, see if there is power getting there.

Re: Dipped beam fault
Graeme's right, there are 4 10A fuses, (one for each dip & main beam). On later D9's these are F9, 10, 11, 12, they may be different on earlier cars. As your car is a 2001 it could be either layout.
I've had the same problem myself - the bulb filament blew in the normal way, but then the wires that connect to the ends of the filament decided to weld themselves together.

Re: Dipped beam fault
I meant the wires inside the faulty bulb, (didn't explain too well).

Okay, got home yesterday, checked all the fuses in car and under the bonnet, again, 3 times(don't know exactly wich one is for the headlights) they all looked okay. When I get home today I'll go buy a multimeter and take the headlight off and see if I can find the fault.
