Sorted,
Just for future reference...
Remove the two plastic blanks on either side of the MFD. These just prise out.
There is 4 T20 torx screws to remove and the MFD just slides out.
On the back there is 3 'twist & lock' bulb holders. If you remove the holders there is a small bulb to replace.
The bulbs you need are 286 Wedge Type bulbs. £1.99 each from hellfrauds
Fitting is the reverse of removal and...

I replaced some of mine last summer as they're the same bulb in the MFD and the digital heater control unit. Pretty sure I paid about 40p a bulb from my LMF.

They are a whiter colour than the OEM filament bulbs, so the red warning lights are a bit pinker, etc. But they have a service life that will far outlive the car.
They are a perfect fit in my D8, but obviously you need to work out which way round they go. With ones like main/full beams, just shove them in and try, and turn them 180 degrees if they don't work. These will fit the D8 clock (with a bit of fiddling), but not the D8 MFD.
Be aware that you can't use LEDs for some of them, notably battery warn, airbag warn, ABS warn, plus some others probably.

One thing I noticed when I did my MFD bulbs with LED's is because the LED bulbs are longer due to their design, then protrude into the MFD further and you can see them as spotlights on the display.
I used just normal white LED's so I'm thinking of roughing the clear plastic ends to see if I can diffuse the light better.
