New key cost?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

New key cost?

Post by Bailes1992 »

Anyone know how much I should expect to pay for a new key, cut and programmed from the dealer?

Just ordered a refurb kit of ebay. My Unlock button was loose, started playing with it and now I lose it

Just hope the kefurb kit lets me swap the blade over. Some have the new blade moulded into the key.

I may try the local Peugeot Specialists then just to get a spare key sorted.
I suppose a D8 blank would do the job alright? Just as a spare.

Will have to try that place.
I'm more interested in getting a new key at the moment because the lock buttons fallen out of this one.

I've ordered a refurb kit, hopefully the blades swap over as I don't want to be trying to get one cut right now.
I've also bought a second hand 206 key in good condition that uses the same top half, so worse case scenario I just put all the 406 gubbins in the 206 key :)

£5 for both well spent

The actual microswitch on the PCB, or just the rubber from the cover?

If it's the latter, just get a similar key off ebay and swap the tops. If the PCB is knackered, then either learn your way with a soldering iron then try to repair it yourself, or get used to putting the key in the door and turning it

I got a 2nd hand good condition key off eBay and just replaced the top cover with the rubber bits, now I have a key that looks brand new without the hassle of having a new blade cut or having it reprogrammed :)

Bailes, you can buy the rubber insert from ebay think i pad £3 you just open the key remove the circuit board and pop the button in... or you could do what i did with my dads berlingo.. buy a cheap fob thats meant to just be a fob keep the half you need and aslong as it looks like your key it should work... Dont forget the little black magnet looking thing if you do it that way though cos your car wont start... the berlingo only cost £3.90 to do aswell.

Funnily enough I called in at the dealers earlier to enquire about a new button for my key fob. I was told they couldn't supply just the button I'd have to buy a new key for £131.50 plus VAT, he then said that was just the key, to code it to the car would be extra !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bandaged up my split sides and left still chuckling to myself, ebay here I come
