Electric mirror problem

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Electric mirror problem

Post by cliffk »

Hi I am new to 406 ownership and now have my Autotrader 2003 406 2.0 110 hdi glx estate, there are a few niggles which I noticed on my test drive they didnt put me off the car but I need advice on how to fix them.

I am splitting them into 4 seperate posts as they may need idividual response

The electric mirrors wont adjust using the door mounted switch.

As Lozz says a previous bad repair could be the problem, worth stripping it down to see what lies beneath, removing the mirror is a pretty straight forward procedure.
The other option would be a dodgy switch which again is a fairly straightforward thing to remove.

Strip the mirror assembly first and if everything looks ok I'd be off to the breakers for a replacement switch.

It could be the LH/RH mirror selector switch that's mucky; especially as both mirrors aren't working. I had this problem on my D8.

you would need to replce the switch if its that, it wont clean no. its probably gone with water getting in it over time with the drivers window being open when raining..

buy a new switch 2nd hand just to rule it out if its not that its onto the next plan.

chance are its switch if both mirrors are not working

not sure if the mirrors are getting power will have to wait until the weekend to check, there are a few electrical niggles see my other posts all could be power issues, Sat nav disk player not running, horn not working and mirrors not working, also the interior lights not working, main light above rear view mirror works but individual map lights dont I havent checked the bulbs yet though.

My map lights don't work unless the ignition is in the first position.
